Everything about this hotel is wonderful!!! When they provide the "Royal service" you truly do feel like royalty. My only complaint was at check-in. It took over an hour and we arrived later in the day than usual so there shouldn't have been so much of a delay. The hotel indicates that it offers "one grade up" upgrades for honeymooners which may or may not be nessecarily true. Only when i asked to speak with management did a room become suddenly available. Other than my first grueling hour at the hotel the entire rest of my stay was something to remember...

Traveler's tip:

Wake up early and claim your space by the pool. The chairs with shade get taken up quickly as well as the pool floats, generally by 8:30 you wont get one..

We visited the Royal with a group of friends to celebrate a wedding and had a wonderful time. While I think some of the reviews that talk about this being the nicest hotel they've ever visited are a little exaggerated, it is a very nice property and on the upper end of all-inclusives in Mexico. The rooms are very lovely and comfortable. We stayed in just a regular royal oceanview room. The showers are amazing! A couple of friends had swim-up rooms which were nice too, but for the $$$ I definitely think sticking with one of the lower room categories is best. If I went back again, I'd get the corner suite to take advantage of the beautiful ocean view and the designated pool cabana. The a la carte restaurants were good, but the lunch buffet could use some improvement. The shows in the evening were what you would expect for the most part..kind of campy themed dancing, although the one on Tuesday (kind of like cirque du solei) was very impressive! The pool is nice, although a little crowded. The beach is beautiful..it is kind of narrow like some people have mentioned, but that is just the way most of the beaches in Mexico are. There is plenty of room to lay out and enjoy the sand. the only real drawback to the hotel in my opinion is that is it in cancun which is my least favorite place in Mexico-- I just don't like how crowded and packed in all of the hotels are. I think there may be another Royal in Playa and I think I would try that one next time!

Wow what a great hotel and resort. The staff were extremely nice and accommodating. The pool and beach were great and the restaurants, some of the best tongue tantalizing delicates you will have in Cancun.

Expect the Unexpected

While we enjoyed our stay and will probably return, we were frustrated with some of the things that were listed on some of the websites that we used to research the hotel and what we found to be true when we arrived. For example, the use of the cold plunge pool was not complimentary; there was a $25 charge for the use of the hydrotherapy circuit of which it was a part. We visited with the hotel manager and he would not give us a complimentary use which was advertised. There were some other issues that we encountered as well. Moral of the story: Even though the hotel slogan is "Expect the Exceptional," we would caution about taking what is listed on the internet literally. You could be in for some "unexpected" surprises.

This place was amazing. The only issue I had was w/ the inital check in. Other than that, from the food, to the staff and service, all our expectations were exceeded. We stayed a week, and our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer.

Do not agree to go to take a tour of the property. They are trying to sell you a timeshare. 90 minutes can turn into a 4 hour meeting until you decide to purchase a timeshare with them. They ruined my vacation!

Traveler's tip:

I wouldn't go to Market 28 to try to find deals. It's not worth it. I was exhausted of people coming up to us, following us, pressuring us to come into their shop...

We went for our honeymoon and received outstanding service from all the hotel staff. Our room was decorated on our second night (first full day) there and we were sent a bottle of champagne and a "happy honeymoon" cake. Everyone knew we were newlyweds and treated us accordingly. The food, entertainment and atmosphere all completely surpassed our expectations. We are definitely planning and saving for our next trip back. The only thing that wasn't quite up to par was we noticed a few spots on our fresh linens and towels a day or so. Everything else-Fantastic!

Traveler's tip:

The Jungle Tour adventure was definitely a once in a lifetime experience! With being able to drive a two-seater speed boat to a snorkel destination and then head back to an all you can eat pizza lunch,it was worth the money and was the most fun of any excursion I've ever been on!

I went to Lanai last March and stayed at a famous five star resort. This resort puts the that resort to shame. Excellent service, drinks, food and rooms. The staff goes out of their way to make sure all your requests are met. The rooms are beautiful with the view to match and very comfortable beds. We really enjoyed the all adult aspect. We would go back next week if we could and definetly plan on going back next year.

We stayed in a Royal Jr Suite for 8 night for our anniversary and this resort was absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to go back. The food was not as good as I had hoped, but it was still lovely. Close to everything, but a refuge if you want to get away from it all. They Royal has our business for future stays without question. They made sure to have champagne in our room upon our arrival as I had requested and we had a beautiful rose petal turn down for our anniversary as well. We did the romantic dinner on the beach and it was so pretty. I couldn't have asked for a more romantic anniversary!!! Others had stated that their nightly turn down was not consistent, but we experienced none of those issues, everything was done when it should have been. We loved the series of whirlpools outside, all the staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating.

Traveler's tip:

Sunscreen and other daily needs can be bought across the street for a bit cheaper, otherwise jump on a R2 bus and head to WalMart in downtown Cancun. Skip the breakfast with the 'sales agents' the day after you arrive. It's a timeshare pitch even though they claim it isn't. Unless you don't mind sitting through it, you do get gifts, but it's all a sales pitch in the end.

Everything was outstanding at The Royal. We did have a few minor problems with our room but they were taken care of by the staff. All of the staff were extremely polite and helpful. Make sure you see Eloisa at the pool. She will keep those drinks coming and always has a smile on her face.

our first impression wan not great because they moved our check-in time back 3 times before we got a room. also, the room they gave us did not have a king-sized bed like it was supposed to. the concierge told me i could get one in 2 nights. i went back later and talked to a different guy, and he got me into a room with a king-sized after our first night.

This hotel was the most impressive of all...Adult only, clean as can be, food was readily available and very good, service wonderful, romantic, Beautiful place! perfect getaway...we will be going back this winter!!

Traveler's tip:

Take a real early flight going there and the last flight back - worth the extra hours! You don't need to take the car service to and from hotel, cabs easily acceptable. Bus transportation is great along the strip $1.00 per person - we went shopping that way. Great!

Would recommend this hotel highly. Very beautiful, tropical and relaxing atmosphere. All of the employees there went out of their way to make sure our trip was special. You could not ask for a better vacation. Food, pool, spa, shopping right at your fingertips, you would never have to leave the hotel. Stayed in a room with the private pool out front and that was the best. The pool was cooler than the main pool and it was great to get in to cool off during the July heat. Visit if you get a chance!

Traveler's tip:

The hotel has a place right there that you can schedule activities. One's at the hotel and off the site also. They were very helpful to tell us how to take the public transportation to get to some of our special trips. They never told us wrong they were the way to go.

The hotel was perfect from the time Best Day travel dropped us off. We checked in online two days prior and were given the exact room we requested. The service was wonderful, the drinks were perfect and plentiful, the hotel was beautiful. The food was presented beautifully, and most of it was delicious. We had to wait quite a while for the hibachi grill, but it was very good. Maria Marie was definitely a hit with us. The steaks were delicious and the service was top notch!! Beautiful sunset views and yummy desserts. I researched and researched many hotels and finally decided on the Royal based on customer reviews. This place will not disappoint! My boyfriend and I are trying to figure out when we can come back. I know it definitely is not soon enough!

Traveler's tip:

Go to Coco Bongo! The hotel has a $50 cover and gives you VIP & all you can drink as well as takes you there. It is better than you can do on your own. Definitely worth the money. The shows were amazing!
