When we asked to change our room the concierge desk was not very happy with us.But our new room was great. The restuarant staff was great. The guy at the poolside was annoying. The music they played at the pool was mostly spanish music.(Bring your Ipod!)

Traveler's tip:

We walked most of the time. The hotel is close to everything. The island even has mcdonalds and wendys. We did take a cab once to town & it cost $10---Take The bus for 2.50 roundtrip.

The Mill looks pleasant enough: nice pool , tennis courts, spacious rooms. However, the front desk, though friendly, was unhelpful with even the smallest requests. Our room had problems - a toilet that wouldn't properly flush & was never fixed during our stay, untracked curtains, etc. In addition, a non-stop DJ destroys any semblance of quiet relaxation. Lastly, avoid eating on-site, unless you are a fan of well-done, not done well.

Not an extremely impressive hotel, but perfect for low budget travel. Still within a short walk from the beach and all of the high-rise district amenities.

I enjoyed a short 3day stay at the mill. the grounds were good the room was large with a jacuzzi. The staff was very good and accommodating. There were a few times where i had special requests and even though it was a little out of there norm, with a little prodding we reached an accord. Beach is right across the street where you share an area with Westin hotel guest and that spot is great with plenty of beach chairs towels. Minus - room musty.

I've stayed at The Mill several times. Great place to stay is you are watching your pennies. You get good bang for your buck there. The rooms are average, the pool and grounds are nice, and the bar is fun. It is cheaper because it is not on the beach (but in walking distance). I usually end up requesting a room change. My reasons were bad A/C, not enough light, needed a sofabed, etc. They are always very accomodating. Friday night happy hour at the pool bar gets crowded (all the locals show up) but it is a lot of fun!

I have been to Aruba 6 times and have been to the Mills 4 different times. THis time I was the least impressed. They have done a lot of renovation and the outside looks good, but the amenities in the room need updating. The bath room was small and everytime you took a shower you had to use all your towels to mop up the floor (poor design). The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were lumpier than poorly cooked oatmeal :) Othen than all of that the food is good and affordable and the staff is friendly. Happy hour is great buy one of anything get the other free! It is definitely the inexpensive way to see Aruba. I own a timeshare in the Divi Phoenix and couldnt use the week this year and would rather stay there any time.

Traveler's tip:

Go to DePalm pier bar Bugaloe. Great ambience and good food for a good price!!!

The Mill Resorts and Suites was a comfortable stay, although our suite was not maintained as well as it could have been (I don't think they ever put a mop to the floor during our 7 days)and out of 4 burners on the stove, only 2 worked well. The staff is very accomodating and friendly. They were informative and helpful. The pool is beautiful and the bar staff is awesome! Great drinks!! Once they put in some new appliances and upgrade the maid service, We would love to go back.

Overall the hotel was nice we did have problems at first with hot water. Im not sure if everyone was trying to shower at one time or what the problem was but it was corrected. The staff was very nice and helpful. There isn't that much of a nightlife you kinda have to go downtown by cab which runs 10-15 dollars If there's a group it's alot better you all can split the fare. You can also take the bus $1.35 but it stops running@midnight.The beach is just a short walk away or the resort offers shuttle service which stops@ 5pm. Nice Clean and Cheap what more can you ask for!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was an ok hotel nothing to write home about. Not enough umf, or fun for me. The late shift bartender was rude to my boyfriend and we were there celebrating his birthday. Everything was expensive at this hotel too. It was too far from downtown and I will not stay there again. It was not worth what I paid for it.

Do you have young children?

This hotel definitely served our needs. We spent little day time there because my 3 children wanted to do activities outside the hotel. We arrived mid-week & the hotel was pretty quiet. We were too busy island exploring to use the hotel amenities. By the weekend the hotel had filled up substantially and many of the visitors had young children. However, my children are 18 - 25 and were looking for activities that were found outside the hotel. Our 3 rooms each had a kingsized bed, a bathroom and a fridge (much better than any hotel with 2 queen sized beds per room). Since 2 of our 3 rooms had full kitchens, we were able to eat breakfast in. The only things I'd like to see improved in this resort would be to get rid of the mold in some of the shower areas - of our 3 bathrooms, one had a mold problem developing in the tile grout, and there are some tiny ant-like bugs that can be found in the room. It wasn't as bad as others have stated in their reviews, but I did find myself washing the kitchen counters frequently. Be sure to purchase dish-washing detergent to clean the kitchen surfaces regularly. It'll keep the bugs at bay. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a large family that would like some space, comfortable sleeping areas & kitchens. Also, the walk to the beach is no big deal. Don't expect complimentary packs of coffee, or tea bags. Bring your own if you need that early morning fix!

Traveler's tip:

Within walking distance you can windsurf, sign up for a snorkling expedition, go tubing or banana boat riding, jet ski, eat on the beach, shop, go to a casino. I'm not sure why anyone would want to spend their time at the hotels - there is so much to do at the beach! Oh! And don't pass up the ATV riding. The guide we had was the best! We had my 70+ mother with us and he made sure she was able to navigate the ATV all the way up the mountain (which she did!).

Hotel was clean and staff went out of the way to please. Fixtures and furniture was older but good condition. I had an efficency and there should have been more than 2 settings of china and glasses. Also, a pot scrubber or sponge for cleaning up the dishes is needed. Internet service here is too expensive and the lobby computers are old. The pool house at the beach takes some effort to find as there is very poor signage there, however, the beach is great. Directions to the beach and for that matter around the complex could be much better (I think it is a language thing). All in all a great place to stay.

The room was comfortable. Good mix of people staying there as well. (Not too loud and not too quiet.) The beach was clean and a short 5 minute walk. Not much nightlife going on at the hotel bar itself. We took a lot of cab rides (approx. $10-$13) into Oranjestad for bars and dancing. Unsolicited tidbit: Mosquitos seem to bite less in a room that has the air conditioning on full blast.

This hotel is probably one of the cheapest that can still call itself a "resort" (pool, restaurant, bar, towel service, etc.) The closeness to the beach is deceiving - it's about 5+ minute walk on unsightly roads. It is, however, convenient to popular restaurants and business strips. Overall the room is clean and you can't beat what you get for the money.

Traveler's tip:

After going around the island I would personally stay at apartment-type places. Given that you don't get the same amount of amendities, but some of the apartments on Palm Beach are 50 feet away from the beach at the same rate.

The old saying, "you pay for what you get" holds true with this hotel. Hotel is moderately priced, so expect mediocrity, not exceptional. We opted to stay at a less expensive hotel for 2 weeks, instead of our normal 1 week at a more expensive one. In hindsight, would have opted for only one week elsewhere. Restaurant onsite, too expensive and extremely slow service. The pool was the best part of the hotel. Rooms were clean for the most part. Had to fight to get clean towels everyday. Sheets were not changed on beds the entire 2 weeks (they only change them in between guests). Sorry but I change sheets at home every 2-3 days. The worst part about the room was our bed was hard as a brick. I have never slept on anything so uncomfortable in all my life. Actually, we wont return to Aruba. Our overall experience left a lot to be desired.

Traveler's tip:

Rent-a-car, avoid the taxi (way too expensive).

We spent a week at the Mill. The staff was great. The hotel is really close to the beach and public transportation as well as restaurants in the Palm beach Area. The place was well kept and they had a great happy hour at the bar. The only drawback was that we were always killing mosquitoes that got into our room. But other people we spoke to said they never had that problem. The pillows and beds were a little uncomfortable. But overall we liked this hotel and the location...you cant beat the price and the people there are great. We would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip:

Use public transportation...the buses are clean and come every 15 minutes. It only costs $2.30 for a round trip ticket. Also in Aruba...don't bother with exchanging money...they use US currency everywhere and take credit cards.

During this trip, we stayed 7 days at The Mill and 4 days at a High Rise up the beach. The Mill is an older hotel two blocks from the beach (not accross the street, like their site says). The rooms are clean and nice but show a few miles. The hotel staff was not overly customer service oriented and we sometimes got the impression we were bothering them. We found a relaxed, friendly atmostphere among the other guests and would meet at the bar for happy hour each night. We preferred the smaller, more intimate, atmosphere of The Mill over the hustle, bustle of the High Rise. We would stay there again.

Traveler's tip:

You might want to consider an "all inclusive". Food is somewhat expensive.

This isn't luxury by a long shot, but for the budget minded it is fine. I recommend bringing food to your room as the restaurant is a bit pricy for the quality. Just a short walk to the beach..it is necessary to cross a fairly busy street though. All in all it was fine.

Hotel is pretty nice but very, very quiet at night. Certainly caters to the older crowd. 10 minute walk from the beach and 5 minute cab ride from downtown. Would go back to Aruba, but not back to the hotel until I'm over 50, at which point I could probably afford to stay at a much nicer place. Had a great experience but wouldn't recommend for younger crowds.

Traveler's tip:

If possible, take taxis everywhere. they arent much more expensive than the bus (pretty much 10 bucks from anywhere on the island to get downtown). The bus is very cheap ($1.30 each way) but not worth the inconvenience of standing and dealing with the locals.
