What to expect: Recognized as the Caribbean's oldest continuously operating hotel, The Crane Resort and Residences in Barbados stands on a cliff above a picture-perfect beach, where pink-tinged white sands meet the azure Atlantic. The resort maintains its original 1887 ambience, exemplified by the lobby's creamy coral-stone walls and manicured, sculpture-dotted grounds. The hotel primarily draws celebrating couples. Amenity highlights: Overlooking the ocean, the cliff-top lap pool features Roman-style columns and a marble sundeck. A recently added pool complex (completed late 2006) offers wate...

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Just what we were looking for to relax and get away. Had a few problems with the phone service, but other than that our stay was wonderful. Would love to go back.

We stayed for 2 weeks and would probably go back, it's a great place to relax. L'Azure restaurant food was not that good. Presentation is beautiful, but the food itself, not very good.
Traveler's tip:
The Tiami Catamaran Cruise was the most fun tour, crew attentive, entertaining, lunch was good. Oistens Friday Night Fish Fry- was OK. Food was good, no live music, craft vendors selling jewelry, sandals, prints, etc. Mount Gay Rum Tour with lunch, was just OK. You actually do not visit the Rum factory, just a place that demonstrates and explains the history of Mount Gay Rum. (The Rum is wonderful though) Did an all day tour around the island, which was very nice.

The Crane was absolutely gorgeous, rooms were immense and well appointed. My wife and I went with our 5 month old and our au pair. The crib provided was clean and our son had no trouble sleeping in it. Bathrooms are large, Master had jetted tub, separate commode room, etc. Kitchen had all the usual amenities as well as an in-room clothes washer/dryer. Views were spectacular day or night, and the beach is truly a top 10. Potential downsides: location 20-30 minutes away - glad we rented a car for the week. Lots of construction of new buildings ongoing as well as the main plaza area.
Call the hotel before your stay and let them know about cribs, etc. We also arranged to be as far away as possible from the construction.

The hotel is beautiful! We had a one room suite w/ a plunge pool...fantastic! We spent the morning at the amazing beach and the afternoon laying out by one of the many pools. The people on the hotel staff were accomodating and friendly. It was the perfect place for a honeymoon!!

We went to Barbados for our Honeymoon in June and stayed at The Crane. The pictures on the website do it no justice. Prior to going, we looked at every possible resort/hotel on the island and can definitely say The Crane is the best resort/hotel on the island; the others just don't compare. We saw a lot of them while touring the island and I can tell you this was our best move; staying at The Crane.

big luxury hotel; almost like a small village; quite a while to walk from one end to the other. nice pools, best beach of Barbados. the apartment was bigger and of course more luxury than my place.
Traveler's tip:
The Crane Beach is the best beach for bodysurfing, boogie boarding and having fun in waves and on a beatiful beach.

The suites are fantastic, and the view is unbelievably gorgeous. The breezes off the Caribbean are constant, so you stay cool despite the temp. Sunscreen is a must, because the breeze and water keep you so comfortable that you don't realize how much sun you are actually getting. Every pool on the grounds is fantastic, and most have views to the Sea. Housekeeping staff keeps the suites impeccable. Our plunge pool was just perfect, too (a little on the chilly side at night because of the constant breeze, but great otherwise). L'Azure and Zen offer fabulous food, service and views of the Sea. Carriage House food is great for lunch time break. It gets pretty expensive, but it's like that just about everywhere. We would absolutely go back there again and again.
Traveler's tip:
If you go into Bridgetown to shop, take your passport and departure slip with you when so you can get duty-free purchases. Also, take a boogie board - the waves on the beach can really get rolling.

Our stay at the Crane was wonderful. We upgraded to the two bedroom suite with our own plunge pool. The room was jaw dropping. It way exceeded our expectations and gave our family of 4 plenty of space. The full kitchen was nice and allowed us to make some nice meals in. The beach was incredible, the pool was awesome. Everyone was very polite and helpful. They are upgrading the resort so there was alot of construction going on, but they are doing it so that it did not disrupt our stay. We will definitely be back.

The Crane hotel was beautiful-the staff friendly and helpful. We staying in a one-bedroom with a plunge pool (which was a little too cold for us) that had a large balcony. We had a wonderful view of the ocean. I have read other peoples review about the A/C unit--if you shut all of the shutters going to the outside and close the bedroom door the room stays very cool-almost too cool in the bedroom. We rented a car for a week during our 10 day stay and saw the entire island. I recommend Barbados as a Caribbean destination and The Crane as the resort to stay at-we will definitely be back!
Traveler's tip:
Try Champers Restaurant-excellent view and food-and Cariba restaurant Also, Cutters Deli near the Crane has delicious take home or eat in entrees.

The hotel is beautiful, service is great, the pools are beautiful and clean. The restaurants are crazy expensive. On the first day I had a bacon cheeseburger, my wife had crabmeat quesedillas and together we had 2 glasses of rum punch....$50 US. Very expensive. Also the taxi's are very expensive, and you don't have to tip them because they are all self employed. Round trip to the center of town is gonna run you 40-60 US round trip.
Traveler's tip:
All the rooms in the Crane have a full service kitchen. The hotel has a twice a week free shuttle to a supermarket, use it or take a taxi and cook yourself breakfast or dinner to save $$$. The breakfast buffet is around $20 per breakfast.

The hotel is situated on a very nice beach accessible via beach elevator. There is a constant breeze and the water and sand quality are very good.We had a one bedroom suite with plunge pool- ocean view. The air condition in the first room did not perform and after a lot of talking and repair attempts we got a different room. The rooms are fully equipped with kitchen, two bathrooms with showers, jacuzzi, dish washer, refrigerator etc. Our second room was fairly new and in much better condition then the first one.The rooms are kept clean. The resort is still under construction but the ongoing work is hardly noticeable. Most of the stuff is friendly and helpful.Unfortunately the pool surroundings are not cleaned on a daily base and broken lights and trampled paths are probably the the result of the ongoing reconstruction and overworked maintenance crew. The restaurants are simply overpriced and if you intend to stay longer then 3 days we would recommend a rental car.Notice:you have to use the left side of the road! The "fish fry" in Oistins is a "must" for fish lovers.Overall we would recommend this hotel especially if you do not have to look at your budget.
Restaurants and pool service are as overpriced as pretty common to the Caribbean. You can buy a beer for USD 1.50 in the hotel store or USD 6.00 at the pool. The food in the "l'Azure" is everything but fresh or professionally prepared. The lack of professionalism continues on with the "Zen"...by the way...why are Japanese theme restaurants so popular in the Caribbean? Try to go to Oistins or Bridgetown it is cheap and safe by bus or take a rental car...

We looked all over both coasts of the island and found this to be the most scenic beautiful place to stay. They concierge was very friendly, they have kitchens in the room, and the most beautiful beach. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island after staying at the crane. There are some that are a higher star rating, but the beach here is the best, and the restaurants are wonderfull. Even if you aren't much a beach person, the Pools are nice as well.
Traveler's tip:
We rented a car as this hotel is on the other side of the island, I would not feel like you absolutely had to rent a car, most activities you setup through the hotel have a free taxi. But it was nice to be able to get away whenever we wanted.

We were only there for a night. Our suite was magnificent with a wonderful view of the sea. The staff were charming and the food was good though not fantastic. The only slight criticism was that the suite was a long way from the reception area. Also the signposting was wholly inadequate so in our short stay we got lost from time to time. All in all though we were very happy.
Traveler's tip:
Spend a bit more money and ask for an ocean view suite.

This was the most luxurious hotel I have ever stayed at. The layout of the resort is so beautiful. The staff is extremely friendly. Our was meticulously cleaned every day. Each room has a small kitchenette. The nicer rooms have a full kitchen.
Traveler's tip:
I highly recommend taking the bus for 1.50 BD to St. Lawerence Gap and Oistens. Cabs are ridiculous.

IO chose this hotel for it's location. It was off season and it was nerly empty. I mostly had one of the 5 hotel pools for myself. The staff is very curteous and helpful in every situation, i went there for the calm and to relax - I really did. No noise woke me up in the morning. The rooms are comfortable and large and clean. The only thing that bothered me were the food prices on the island. The hotel breakfast costs 20 USD, and it's juts a little buffet. So I did my shopping and cooking myself, to avoid the costly hotel restaurants. If you by a drink without alcohol at the hotel bar (Virgin Pina Colada instead of Pina Colada) it's much cheaper too.
Traveler's tip:
I did the Tiami Catamaran tour, including snorkling and Seaturtle watching. It was a great experience. The Catamaran crew was excellent. Free drinks and good food are included on the tour - it was really worth the money.

I want to first say that the hotel grounds, rooms, and view are stunningly beautiful. The rooms are huge and comfortable. The landscaping is very nice and lush, but much of it is still being planted. The views of the beach and ocean over the cliff are breathtaking. I greatly advice you to not book a plunge pool room because the water is way too cold to use. The pools are shaded from the sun and there is always a stiff breeze that keeps it too cold. It really was a shame because it was so nice. If the hotel were to install heating, then it would be great. Also, much of the resort is still being built with much construction going on every day. The main "jaccuzi" on the grounds is also unheated and unlit at night, which was also dissapointing. Barbados is not very hot, considering it is so far south. The constant wind creates an evaporation effect on the water and keeps it COOL, too cool at night. All in all, once this place is totally completed I would say that it would be the nicest place to stay on the whole island and one of the best in the Caribbean. We rented a car and toured the whole island (do this only if you are comfortable driving on the left on very windy, unmarked roads) and the Crane had what I thought to be the best views on the whole island, the nicest beach I've ever been on that is outside a hotel, and some of the best views I have seen anywhere.
Traveler's tip:
If you are an angler, do not go fishing in the "slow season" as the Bajans call it. It is more like a "no season." I rented a charter vessel and fished for 7hrs, only catching one tuna that was about 3 pounds. Our boat had the best day at the marina. Save your money and go sailing or eat at some of the great restaurants on the island. They're pricey, but so is everything in Barbados. Also, buy rum in the airport, its duty free and half the price in the US.

The hotel was beautiful. The rooms look exactly like the pictures. The next time I go I will definitely like to spend more time. We didnt even have the opportunity to see the entire resort. Excellent!!!
