The hotel property is beautiful. The beach area is a little rough, best for surfing. If you're looking to get away from everything, this is the perfect place. If you're looking to enjoy nightlife (dining & partying), don't stay here. Hotel is far from the action.

Traveler's tip:

Rent a car if staying at this hotel.

They didnt accept credit cards or cash at the bar in the pool, only cash cards issued by the same hotel, so it was a bit unpleasant to go to the Reception to get a new card everytime the funds went out in the card you had.

Traveler's tip:

Forget the extremely fancy restaurants. Go to the Fish Fry on Oistins. It is really cheap and the best food I had during all my stay in Barbados.

My stay at Silver Sands was very pleasant. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean with a working air conditioner and cable t.v. The food in the resturant was tasty but a bit expensive. There was a live band in the resturant nightly.

Traveler's tip:

Silver Sands is located about twenty minutes away from St. Lawrence Gap. Local transportation ZR can be boarded in front of the local shop over the hill from the local church. A ten minute walk. Transportation costs $1.50. The ZR(local mini Buses) travel through Oinstins to Bridgetown. I had a wonderful time.

Dirty, run-down and not even close to a 3 star hotel! Do yourself a favor, and book a better class of hotel elsewhere on the island.

incredibly, you could not get a drink at the pool. no bar service was available. Not "bad service", Not "slow service", but literally "NO BAR SERVICE PERIOD, NONE, ZADA, ZILCH, ZIPPO, NONE!!!!!!" Even in the outdoor restaurant which surrounded the bar, no one took any drink orders. You had to get up, walk to the bar, order and wait for your drink. If you ordered and went back to your table or the pool, YOUR DRINK JUST SAT THERE AND MELTED-THE BARTENDER WOULD NOT LEAVE THE HOLE HE WAS STANDING IN (the bar was slightly lower than the restaurant floor) and bring you a drink. THERE WERE NO BAR HOSTESSES, ZERO, ZILCH, NONE. I asked the bartender about the problem and he said the only bar help he EVER had was for about 1 hour a day mid-morning (a very slow bar time) when the liquor was delivered and the bar was replenished. We started buying our liquor and beer at the minimart on site (100 yards from the bar) and bringing liquor and beer into the restaurant openly. Since NO ONE WOULD TAKE A DRINK ORDER, WE JUST BOUGHT AND BROUGHT OUR OWN. I wouldn't go back if YOU paid ME to go and we were in a party of 8 and would have spent a fair amount if there was any service AT ALL.

Traveler's tip:

stay at the southwest corner or the south part of the west coast with close access to bridgetown. Though the isle is only 166 sq. miles, there are 270,000 people. The finest road in the country would NOT QUALIFY as a "ranch road" or "farm-to-market road" in rural Texas. Maximum speed on the isle is about 30 in MPH, though it is posted in KMH. We stayed in the middle of the south coast and it took 45 minutes to get to the dive shop 6 or 7 miles away. IT WAS MUCH WORSE IN 4-6 PM TRAFFIC.

If you're on a budget, an all-inclusive would be a better way to go!

We seemed to have some kind of issue every day, starting with arrival. We got in late at night and the night reception was "here's a key", which would have been fine, but we found out in the morning that we missed out on quite a bit of info, including the breakfast that was included and the card that was needed to get it. We had no TV for 4 days (even after 4 phone calls, including 2 from the housekeeper). Do NOT book activities through their "expedia Rep". We booked a rum tour and the transportation never showed, so we missed out on the only lunch tour available while we were there. She also gets commission on whatever you book, so things are more expensive than if you go it alone. We booked a cocktail tour on our own and had a blast! Highly recommened the Mount Gay Cocktail tour! Be prepared to be harrassed by the locals several times a day as soon as you step foot off the resort onto the beach, offering your choice of conch shells or illegal drugs. Since all beaches are public, this seems to happen everywhere; however, we weren't really able to enjoy the beach, which was a big draw when we looked at the pictures on the website. A lot of attractions were fairly far away from the resort and transportation is expensive. If we went back to Barbados, an all-inclusive resort would be a much better choice, as things were extremely expensive otherwise.

Traveler's tip:

The local "buses" are a cheap ride, if you are willing to walk a little ways, and don't mind overcrowded vans with a roller coaster ride sensation! We laughed hysterically every time we were in one!

This is not what I was expecting for a hotel at a resort - although perhaps my expectations were too high. The beds were 2 twins pushed together and the shower was a blast of water (I am talking it hurt to stand under it!) Housekeeping kept the room clean but was not able to provide towels after a certain time of day, nor were they able to provide an ironing board after a certain time. There are 2 places to eat on site but are only open at certain hours and are expensive!! There is a little mini-mart to get snacks - that is what we lived off of for lunches. Silver Sands is so far off the path that there aren't many options for restaurants unless you take a bus into St. Lawrence Gap or Oistins. The food/activities in the area are pricy so you have to be choosy about what you want to do. I will say, the view is beautiful and the water is warm. The pool is nicely maintained and open all day.

Traveler's tip:

Bring your own snacks - trail mix, granola bars, etc. There are no microwaves but there is a tea kettle that heats water. We bought Ramen Noodles for lunch so we could go out for dinners.

THIS IS A NICE, CLEAN, OLDER RESORT. I FOUND THE NATION OF BARBADOS TO BE A LOVELY TROPICAL LAND AND OVERALL THE PEOPLE OF BARBADOS ARE GOOD, HONEST FOLKS. IF I EVER HAVE THE CHANCE TO RETURN I WOULD LIKE TO STAY AT THE SILVER SANDS AGAIN. SHALOM...

Traveler's tip:

I AM A SCUBA DIVER AND I HIGHLY ENDORSE DIVING WITH HAROON AND HIS CREW AT: "THE DIVE SHOP". THE DIVING IN BARBADOS IS AWSOME...ONE MUST DIVE THE SHIPWRECK "STAV".

This hotel is right on a very pretty little beach, and the beach view from our balcony was gorgeous. The service was good -- the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate. The rooms were tidy, although we found that any food left out attracted large numbers of tiny ants. Overall, we had a great time and hope to return next year.

Traveler's tip:

The hotel is in an isolated location away from restaurants and shops. This didn't bother us because we had a rental car, but it could get boring for people without transportation, and the on-site restaurant prices are not low.

On the outside the Hotel looks very nice and cozy, but on the inside its a mess. For starters we waited 2hrs & 20 min to get checked-in. Once we received our rooms they were not the cleanest.I eventually paid for a upgraded room which was better, but not what I expected as far as cable T.V. service, and a King size bed. Now the breakfast that was included in my package was always a problem as far as the restaurant staffers were concerned they were not courteous at all and very rude. To some it up my stay @ the Silver Sands Resort was a dreaded one.

Not really satisfied with this hotel. Grounds and pool were nice but we were stuck in the old building in large suite, NO A/C except in bedroom and the rest had open vents to the outside which let out all the A/C if BR door left open. We were SWELTERING!!! No electrical plug ins anywhere except kitchen. Bugs came through vents at night and were all over floor. Got our wake-up call 30 min. late to airport. No A/C in resturant and birds fly in to pick off plates. Better places to stay.

Traveler's tip:

Don't rent car. Take Williams Tour to see all of island then take bus to whereever. Catamaran Tour was great(swim with sea turtles, snorkle, full lunch).

Except for the front desk, the staff did not want to be bothered. Basically you do NOT receive service. You want a drink, you stand in line until they decide to get it for you. Imagine being on the islands and told by a bartender- How do you make a coconut rum punch- Then told -we have NO coconut rum- we have NO punch, how about pineapple juice. Had to call twice for towels, they forgot to leave new ones, and once totally forgot to clean the room.
