We stayed in the Grand Section so had access to both Grand and Club facilities. Grand section was wonderful in everyway - food/beverage choices were excellent, pool facilities were beautiful (right on beach, swim up bar, warm pool), staff was very friendly exp. in the restaurants, room was nice (not wonderful but we didn't spend much time there), shows each evening were fun, kids activities and adult activities were available during the day and those we participated in were fun. Wish we'd discovered this place years ago. Club vs. Grand comparison: the Grand section was mostly older folks, very tame atmosphere, food a bit nicer with better quality and more choices, drinks used a little higher quality tequila and a little stronger and pool was warmer as compared to the Club section. Grand section includes one large pool and Club section 2 add'l pools. If you are in Grand, you can use Club facilities but not the other way around. When we go again, we will again choose Grand section because it isn't much more. We loved this place as did our pre-teens!!!

Hotel was not on beach as pictured--sister property across street. Run over with locals on Thurs. through Sunday specials--cannot get into pool, over-run with children and made pool so cloudy you could not see your hand beyond two feet deep. Drinking age is 18 so Thurs. till Sunday you have drunken teenagers up and down the hall slamming doors, singing loudly and making a ruckus until 2-3 am. If this had been my first trip to Puerto Vallarta it would have been my last. Will never book this hotel again.

Traveler's tip:

Local blue and white buses are the best!!! Two people are 11 pesos and the buses go into the heart of downtown. Ride is better than the Matterhorn at Disneyland and a roller coaster all in one. A must do!!!

There are two parts to this resort, one a bit more upscale, this one, "the Club" not so much. This proved a bit confusing from the first taxi ride from the airport. Two separate entrances a few blocks apart. The breakfasts were fine. We didn't have lunch there. The dinners were not great. The two restaurants that needed reservations were quite good, especially the Japanese one. It was difficult to schedule a reservation at the Italian Restaurant. It was empty most of the time, but no reservations available. Strange. The consierge only wanted to sell the timeshare thing and was not helpful. It was difficult to call out. You had to leave money at the front desk in order to do this. The beach was narrow and it was difficult to walk along the beach as the rock levees got in the way. The drinks were flowing, but not strong. The pools closed down at 7 PM. This was annoying. Many native people enjoyed the resort, Americans were definitely the minority.

Traveler's tip:

Make sure you know the resort is "the Club" not "the Grand". PiPi's in town is authentico.

In the name of all the staff at Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort, I thank you for you valuable comments. In order of your comments, I have to tell you that the entrance of the CLUB section is going to suffer a mayor repairing and this will help in the let the traffic know about the difference, we are in the process, after some of our clients comments in to make some changes in the menus, the ones that are the most popular we are going to leave for another season, I appreciate your comments about our specialty restaurant, and make sure, for your next visit, you and the rest of the guest, we will find the way you can use all of them so you don’t miss any of our delicious restaurants. For that beach area, in this moments we are working in to build a new pear so with this, we spec to have more room to walk and have beach chairs all the time. Pool hours, we are closing them now at 10PM so all our guest can enjoy the beautiful weather up late. Ones again, thank you very much for the time you take to give your valuable comments.

The people at the Plaxa Pelicanos were where the experience was. The activities directors were a great time, and ensured that a good time was had by all. This was my first time to Mexico, and I went with my daughter. In the information that I researched on this facility it stated that all rooms had a safe. While there was a place for the safe in the closet we ended up using the hotels safebox. This just make things a little inconvenient everytime we went somewhere. The staff was constantly cleaning and sweeping areas which made us feel comfortable about where we were.

The hotel was very clean and the staff was more than curtious. The only complaint we have about our stay is the availability of chairs at the grand section pool. I do understand that I was visiting during their busiest week of the year but, there was an obvious lack of chairs available for all of the guests who desired them.

Traveler's tip:

If you are staying in the grand section and you have an all inclusive plan make all of your dinner reservations with the consierge as soon as possible to make sure you get the chance to enjoy all 3 of the delicious dinner restaurants

The service and food was excellent as well as the staff, very friendly. Our room was not as nice as we expected the pictures make it look a little more nicer than what it really was, but the pool and all the other amenities were well worth the money! Great place to stay but I suggest getting the upgraded rooms :)

The hotel has lovely landscaped spacious grounds. You can take a walk and enjoy the tropical greenery. They make good use of the land with swimming pools in 3 locations and serve buffet dinners in a park-like setting from which you can see the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta sparkling at night. The staff keeps the hotel very clean and is eager to make your stay enjoyable.

Traveler's tip:

The hotel has a track for walking or running and tennis courts. The heated pool is a delight and the jacuzzi is located in the secluded adults only area. Take advantage of the specialty restaurants offered. A first floor room has a small patio with a table and chairs .

We stayed in the Grand Section last year and in the Club Section this year . After hearing many bad reviews about the Club section we were a bit afraid but decided to stay in the Club because of the cheaper price . We were so pleasantly surprised ! It was wonderful . Clean and beautiful rooms . The staff was friendly and fun . And we had a heated outdoor pool ! Simply fantastic . We would never spend the extra money to stay in the Grand again. It just doesn't seem worth it . I recommend this hotel .

Traveler's tip:

I recommend going to " El Andariego " restaurant in puerto Vallarta ( near the Malecon ) Great food including mexican for me and a great T-bone for my boyfriend . Waiters are friendly and they give you free tequila shots !

This was the first time in a Mexico resort. And I would have to say it was good. The bed was a little hard, but otherwise everything else was good. The staff was outstanding and helpful. The one thing I did not understand was the two Pelicanos resorts were separate from each other, where I got the impression from the description that it was all together. I liked that it was close to downtown near the markets.

We signed up for a king size bed with Expida, but we had two double beds. No pool side service. Buffet food was ok. Best buffet was reserved for time share owners, which we could not cross to their side of the bridge.

This would be a wonderful hotel if it were not for the food. I am not a picky person, but this was really bad (even for all inclusive food). However there are many great restaurants in the area (I recommend Mandala downtown... a little pricy but excellent). Maybe try the european plan (just hotel and flight) unless your a big drinker. A couple of tips: Tell them it's your honemoon. Free bottle of champagne when you arrive :) Stay in the grand section. Worth the extra $ Save your chairs early in the morning. The good ones fill up fast. Make reservations for restaurants early in the morning. They also fill up fast. Bring ear plugs for sleeping. The walls are very thin. We listened to children screaming all night. DON'T LOSE YOUR WRIST BANDS OR TOWEL CARDS. They will charge you $50.00 a piece. Pack bottled water in your suitcase. They will charge you for every bottle after the first 2 complimentary ones (however they will give you a glass of water fresh from the river). If your not too hungover, get up early to see the high tide. It's pretty cool to see (and swim in). Have a good trip!!

Traveler's tip:

Mandala (downtown)

I will not go back. The water for a shower barely trickled. The walls are paper thin and the neighbors kept us up all night. We made reservations for massages and then they would not let us in. They said we were not allowed in to the grand section. So why did they take our reservation, we told them we were in the club section. When you frist get there they sit you down and try to sell you a timeshare. This was very annoying.

When booking this trip we didn't know there were two sides to this resort. One side having cabana beds, nicer lounge chairs and a pool that you could swim up the wall that overlooks the beach and ocean. We had friends who upgraded to this side, but because of the wrist bands we were not allowed to go over to there side. The bridge to there side also was guarded so we were not allowed to cross. If we would have known this at the time we booked we also would have upgraded. The wait staff was exellant and made sure you had any thing you needed.

Traveler's tip:

It's less expensive to upgrade before you go than when you get there.

This place was awful, they hammered all day long and it started at 6:00am. Stay away from this place! The food was very bad and made many people sick. Thye beach is full of rocks! Timeshares at this hotel is bad, they try and pressure people.

The malecon is a very nice walk. It has great sunsets and very cute shops!

This hotel seems to cater more to local Mexican vacationers. The food was minimal and not anywhere good as we have experienced in past trips. The "mexican" food was not even up to par with fast food chains here in the US. The beach and pool were fine and we had no problems with overcrowding. Use the buses and get out to the boardwalk in town.

Traveler's tip:

You MUST go on the Rhythyms of The Nigth evening package. I have been on nothing more romantic!

This was my second trip to this hotel because last year we had such a great time. We were moved 3 times because of constrution and noise. It woke me up almost every morning. The staff was till great and we loved being there. Sitting at a pool trying to relax and hearing hammering all day long was not too cool. I wish we would have known that it was going on so we could have stayed somewhere else. Other then that it was great. The food was ok. But who's there to eat??? Ask for a double on drinks too.

My wife and I are repeat guests at the Plaza Pelicanos. We know are way around the place and what to avoid and waht to do. This stay was way below normal. First of all we called the front desk two months before arriving because we know where we want our room. Upon arrival we was placed in another room which the view off our balcony was of construction material that was tore out during the remodel that was under way. They did move us to a better room but still not the ones we wanted. The only time the buffet was open was during breakfast. For lunch and dinner you ordered off the same menu. I thought this Hotel cared about us since we were repeat customers, but no you are just a number to them. I may last review of them was a positive one but not this one. We will be staying somewhere else the two times a year we go to Puerta Vallarta.

We needed to switch rooms because our first room had a view of a parking lot!! WE repacked and moved. The adult only pool and all around the rooms were under construction. Constantly hearing drills, hammering, and pounding. The two sections were separated by a bridge so steep I couldn't walk in heels without help. Poor activities available, 12 y/o son bored!! Forget the beach there wasn't any and if you got close to the steps going to it, peddlers would bug you!!! Buffet's got redundant, but the specialty resturants were good. "Daily" night entertainment was good for 2-3 nights then nothing or repeat!! Not much to do unless you like laying at pool( you have to keep moving to stay in the sun) with noise the whole time!! Confirm that construction is done!!!!! No night life you can pay to go to a local disco otherwise the place closes up a 10:00 p.m.

Traveler's tip:

When arriving at airport look for a ride farther from the imediate area and only pay $5.00 Talk with Louigi one of the activity guys about a massage at Daniels for $20.00 for 1 hour!!! Awesome!! There's a jacuzzi on top of the condos. We found out the last night there. Nice walk to downtown to do shopping along the way.

We went for our honeymoon and had very open minds going in. The staff was polite and fun to get to know, and grouds were kept up beautifully. We stayed in the grand section, all inclusive, and were pleased with the service and options. It was unfortunate that the building was under construction. It would have made a world of difference if it was not. There was constant banging and the floors were dirty: typical construction site. We heard that we went at a time that was their "off season" and enjoyed non crowded restaurants and swim up bar.

Traveler's tip:

We went horseback riding up to Mismaloya/El Eden where the Predator set was. It was very "rustic" and not organized. It was a great experience though. We saw roaming bull and other animals. All animals were very tame. It was quite tiring , but a fun first excursion. We also went jet skiing and kayaking, both fun. Tizok Takos around the corner from the hotel was good (but very hot inside.)OXXO was a good place to get waters, gatorades, etc.
