Not Impressed, not a relaxing Getaway

If you enjoy mosiquitos, being woke up by roosters crowing at 5 a.m 6 a.m and pretty much the whole day, listening to dogs bark all night long, after being kept up by loud, obnoxious music until 1:30 a.m and only being served "buffet" meals without a nice restaurant around, plus traveling 45 minutes or more away for any activities (other than shopping). Then this would be the trip for you! The pool is like something you would find in an apartment complex and is not impressive at all. No swim up bar, no fountain, nothing. The rooms are comfortable, but not "luxurious" as they are advertised. They are like a regular "motel" room. Going to the beach, you will be bombarded constantly by the locals trying to sell you something. Jewelery, hair-braiding, whatever they can beg you to buy. They never leave you alone. The "resort" is situated between residential areas and they are not required to stay off of the beach property. I was not impressed and will not be going back!

Traveler's tip:

Bring lots of bug spray! Bring lots of one dollar bills for tipping Be prepared to spend most of your day traveling to any activities (including motorized water sports) If you plan to go off of the resort grounds, make sure you have a local who will help watch out for you

Clean and friendly. Didn't mind the buffet as the food was offered in a great variety and covered to prevent spoiling and insects. Always able to find something delicious. Would have enjoyed snacks available in the evening hours. Really great value for the money. Beautiful gardens and lovely spa facilities. Worth walking across the street for the lower pricing.

Would be fine for very young children but I left my six and eleven year olds at home. They would have been board as it is a very relaxed and low key climate.

If you are looking for a small all inclusive, this is for you. It was very comfy, everyone there is responsive to your needs and they did an excellent job keeping us alert of Hurricane Dean. They relocated everyone inland or to a safer property. Best AI on the 7 mile beach by far!

We had such a nice stay at this resort!! Worth every penny! The food is great, the grounds are cute, and the beach is beautiful! There was 2 of us girls, and we felt safe here, that was important to us.

Traveler's tip:

So much fun! Right next door on the beach side is Alfred's Ocean Palace, worth the cheap door charge.

I stayed at Negril Gardens for 4 days. The hotel was very clean and the staff extremley friendly. I was however a little disapointed that the food was not that great. The meals where buffet style and dinner the last meal of the day was over by 10pm which I thought was a little too early for a vacation. The Staff at Negril Gardens made my stay enjoyable, they were so helpful.

Traveler's tip:

Be sure to visit Ricks Cafe its beatiful and has great food.

I had a wonderful time with my boyfriend at Negril Gardens. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. We stayed on the Gardenside which is nice but I would have much rather prefered the beachside since you didn't have to cross the street. The pool is lovely, no one uses it but I did and enjoyed it as much as the beach. We spent most of our time on the beach which is beautiful but the hustlers were annoying. The staff is so friendly and the food was really good...I ate healthier food there than I do in NY. I would definately be returning to Negril Gardens soon.

Traveler's tip:

Make sure and bring bug spray because there are alot of mosquitos. If you need to buy anything from candy, rafts, bug spray or water shoes walk outside of the hotel, make a right and walk down to the duty free shopping center. Its a short walk and you can purchase anything you need at reasonable prices.

This hotel was exactly what I expected after reading reviews. It would have received a 5 in Quality & Comfort if our room was not facing the busy road outside. We arrived to be put into a room with 2 double beds. I asked to have my room changed and it was done, however we were put in a room that faced the road and was REALLY noisy. All you could hear was traffic. We asked again to be moved and were told that all of the rooms were full. Beach was beautiful, security made me feel extra safe and it was a great location on the beach. This truly was a "No Fuss Holiday". This hotel is great if you want the basic hotel. For the price it was exactly what I was looking for. Food was Ok. Breakfast was by far the best meal of the day. The dining area is all open and not air conditioned. So if you are there during the HOT months, be prepared! All in all it was a great trip. The hotel was perfect for the money we spent. We didnt have to worry about meals or drinks which made things extra easy on us. This hotel is not for someone who wants to be fussed over and pampered. It is much more relaxed and quiet than the larger AI's in Jamaica which makes it really great!

Traveler's tip:

We went to Y.S. Falls & Mayfield Falls. Both were great! We also did the horseback riding at Paradise and it was wonderful. We were the only 2 people on the tour that morning. You can book all of your tours right inside the gift shop which is extra convinient!

We really enjoyed our visit to Negril Gardens. The Hotel was very quaint and tropically painted and decorated. The staff were extremely cordial and always pleasant. The food was for the most part good. After a week we were very tired of the mostly Jamacian fare. Enjoyed the music especially the last Saturday there when a guest joined the set and the played some Rock-N-Roll music. Organized activities could be scheduled and some type evening entertainment included.

Traveler's tip:

Note to explorers; Don't venture out on your own. Stay with a legitimate tour. Locals will try to take advantage of you. BE CAREFUL, BE WATCHFUL of your surroundings.

From the moment my sister and I exited our taxi & were offered champagne--champagne!--we were happy with our choice. We were greeted by the security at the front & a clerk from the gift shop--all before entering the office to check in. It was late; by the time our bags were dropped off & we washed our faces, we had missed dinner. The waitstaff--it was 10 by then & they must have been ready to go--prepared us snacks: finger sandwiches & fresh fruit. Beach hustlers hawked everything from fresh steamed lobster (right on the beach!) to coconut jewelry to aloe massages to jet ski rides. A security guard always stood near to monitor the proceedings. & whenever we left the grounds or walked further down the beach, s/he took our room number--& rewrote it the log when we returned. The food is excellent--a little native cuisine yet enough of what your stomach is used to keeps it from turning on you! The tablecloths are linen; the service real silver & china, but the staff*s attitude is friendly like your aunts serving it up... I LOVED my stay here. Felt like I was at a home away from home, not on a resort. The bathroom sinks weren't overshined chrome; staff noticed when I changed my hair! I felt like I knew them; I felt like they were looking out for me. If you are looking for a lot of hospitality (w/a likkle Bob Marley piping through the speakers at all times of course; you are in JA after all),you gotta check em out. You will swear you have come to a new home--not left yours.

Traveler's tip:

Book some tours in advance through the gift shop --they can offer advice about the best ones. Be stern but friendly--it may be easier said than done for some but I had no problem--with the vendors cum hustlers.

Little cute resort on the beach

Overall the hotel met my expectations. My friend and I mostly care about prompt service, cleanliness of the rooms and closeness to the beach. We stayed on the garden side of the resort across the road. Because we were both used to vacation in high rise hotels. It felt little different this time (into nature) but it was nice. We liked the fact that each room had a personal balcony. White sand beach was nice. Water was warm and clear. Staff was very friendly, respectful and warm blooded just like the rest of the Jamaican people. The only problem/discomfort was the locals harrasments to sell some items on the beach. We may have said maybe 100 times where we were from, "No, I don't need it" or "We already bought it". If you are like me who likes to walk, try to have early morning beach walks to avoid locals harrasment. Another discomfort was the mosquitos and/or flies. There does not seem to be enough spraying so certainly bring your own "bug repellent spray".

Traveler's tip:

if you like to dive into water(jumping off the cliff), certainly visit ricks cafe, if you like fast reggae and disco style music, try "Jungle" (in walking distance to Negril gardens) Don't forget your bug repellent spray. Avoid having sun baths between 11am to 3pm even if you use sun block 30, you may get burned. :)

This is a very cozy place to stay. My husband and I came for 7 days on our honeymoon. The staff here is extremely friendly!! The food is by no means gourmet and often the same food is served for breakfast and lunch everyday. There are however, different themed dinner nights throughout the week. Come early! I am not a picky eater but after 7 days here I had enough especially after talking to another tourist who said their resort was serving LOBSTER! No food like that here. It's a nice place and we made the best of it but if you are a picky hotel critic do not stay here. The last couple of nights our room was very hot. Beware of the open shutters in every room that do not have screens on them. Bugs and critters of any kind are welcome. Don't get me wrong Negril Gardens is a great place just I don't want anyone to be disappointed. There are really no "beachside" rooms which disappointed us. Only a couple of the rooms on the beachside actually have a view. Sunset from the bar is awesome! Drinks are great too!! Definitely stay here if you want a quiet getaway with your family or spouse. Not much of a "party" resort. Bar closes at 1:00 am and most of the time there was no one besides the bartender at the bar after 10 pm.

Traveler's tip:

Rick's Cafe is a must! Be sure to bring lots of cash there. Margaritaville was great too and the hotel offers a free shuttle daily. Don't bother with the outdoor market if you don't like being haggled by the locals. Also, say no to dope if you are not interested. They will leave you alone. If you like to fish try Stanley's Deep Sea Fishing. And finally the day or sunset cruise with Wildthing is a must.

i had a good time. the staff was fun, food was real good, and it was'nt to crowded. the only downfall was the peddlers on the beach. even though security is there, they still hassle you really bad for anything you got that they want. the guy's on the beach can really almost ruin it sometimes with their aggressiveness. they don't like the word no at all. and when you do through them a bone, they just want more, more, more.

Traveler's tip:

take the local cabs with the red license plates. they are much less than the hotels juta taxis. agree to a price before getting in the car or you might get taxed. most of the attractions are 10 dollars or less to get to.

This was our second vacation to the Isle in two years. Being a real beach was a big plus over Runaway Bay area last year. Last year we ran from one end of the Isle to the other everyday. This year the first bus we got on was the one to the airport. We enjoyed the family type people, the great food every meal, never missed one. They all tried to learn our names and get to know us. Our A/C circuit breaker popped twice, was fixed in a half hour, even on a Sunday. We stayed on the Garden side and I mean colorful garden full of lizards, peacocks, and tree frogs which made the most romantic music in the quite, moonlite night. Most of the other guests did not speak English, all European or Asian descent. The room coffee pot gave my wife fits but that was how they work there. Had a big container of ice close to our room. Had to cross a busy highway to get to the beach. They had a road guard on both sides to try to stop the cars so you could safely cross. They had great security on the resort which kept the beach salesmen at bay. Wife loved the action, sun, and sand at the beach but I craved the large, clean, deserted pool on the Garden side. We were completely alone there for four of the seven days, no one used it. Clean towels at beach and pools at all times and no towel cards to loose. Nightly entertainment is limited. Personally saw no nudity at beach or pool, not that kind of place. Small personal resort, great place to relax, enjoy island life.

Traveler's tip:

When aproached to buy something, do not stop and say no! If you stop, you will be wearing it soon and now he wants you to pay him a sum not yet determined for something you were not looking for or even thinking about. Start practicing saying these phrases, "Not Today", "Captain Moses already hooked me up", "No Wan It", "Already have too much of that" "Do not think I would be comfortable doing that" These phrases will get you out of anything on the Island.

This resort was perfect for our honeymoon. We went in May, 2007 and loved everything about it. When we first got to the airport in Montego Bay, and then proceeded with the hour and a half or so ride from Montego Bay to Negril, I must admit we had our doubts. With all the rampant poverty, etc., it felt as if we were in Africa. However, once we got to our resort, it truly felt like paradise! The beaches are everything you have ever heard of and then some! The food was outstanding and never had the same thing twice! The drinks were various and plentiful. All in all, a perfect honeymoon! One word of caution: Do not leave the resort! Stay on the resort property the entire time you are there for your own safety! I made the mistake of needing some cash so I had a bus driver drive me a couple of miles down the road to the nearest ATM (not on the resort's property) and when I got there I was surrounded by people who obviously knew I was a tourist. They began shouting things at me and asking me for money, cigarettes, etc. I felt very uncomfortable and frightened, being so outnumbered and having to withdraw cash. So, take my advice... stay on the resort!

Traveler's tip:

Be sure to tip the waiter/waitress and your bartender for each meal or drink. I am not talking about an outrageous amount of money... just a dollar here and there. The staff will remember you and will treat you better than the rest if you tip dollars here and there!

Nice size hotel. Not too many rooms so that you felt overwhelmed with tourists, but small enough so that staff could become familiar with you and be freindly. Very good service by the staff and very good at keeping locals away if that is what you wanted. Front desk clerks need customer service training so they know how to handle complaints and room issues. When initaly checking in the clerk gave us a room with two beds versus a room with a "king" bed that we had reservations for. By the way, their version of a king size bed is an american queen size bed. When our room flooded due to an unusual rain storm and roof issue, it took asking for the manager to obtain a new room. The front desk clerk did not know how to move reservations around to reasign us a new room and told us nothing could be done. These situations were the only down side to the stay. It is a great hotel for couples and maybe a family with one child. More adult oriented, which we enjoyed greatly.

Traveler's tip:

Great resturant within walking distance when you get tired of the buffet. Also in walking distance was a very nice shopping center with small shops for gifts to take back home and high end duty free jewlery stores. May go back after trying some of the other islands.

I was pleasantly surprized by this resort. Although I booked the garden side, I was placed on the beach side, which was fantastic. The room was nice and a/c worked properly and the facilities are well maintained. Whilst the food is not fantastic, it was acceptable and plentiful (I would have liked to see more Jamaican dishes). I must rave about the blended fruit and mango punch which were absolutely wonderful, particularly on a really hot day. Because the beach is so calm, you do not wake up to the sound of the waves but the rooms are very close to the beach to allow an early morning swim and jog along the beach. The General Manager also walked around chatting with the guests during dinner which was quite nice. I would definitely go back again.

Traveler's tip:

Try the blended fruit and mango punch drinks!

I went with another female to the Gardens and we stayed for 7 nights and 8 days. The staff there are the best and are willing to help you with anything! The food was good and the drinks were plentiful. We're both in out late 20's and early 30's so we kept the security busy. Security did an amazing job keeping the locals at bay when we wanted. The bar staff were all very fun and great to chat with. The wait staff were also fun and they took care of us great! We did not have water on our last morning and I called the front desk. Within 20 minutes the water was back on, so I can't really complain. We had a great time!

Traveler's tip:

Do the glass bottom boat ride to Rick's cafe or to go snorkel with Iann, Devon, and Yellow. They are fun and it's worth the money. Rick's Cafe' is very fun to go to, prices are a bit high, but definately worth visiting to go watch the cliff divers. Jump if you dare and make sure you take many pictures! When you go home, you'll wish you took more! Purchase water camera's before you go on your trip, they're very expensive in Jamaica.

Me and my friend, both 20 went to Jamaica for a week and paid a reasonable price for an All-inclusive. Let me tell you, this place is worth the money! The food at Negril Gardens was awesome, every meal was delicious. The service was outstanding, and we met a lot of real cool people while in Jamaica. Alfred's is right next door and has live music 3 out of the 7 nights so we would just go back and fourth from our resort with drinks, because they stamp you hand. The live music there is awesome. We went to the Bamboo one night and it was cool, there was a lot of locals because it is free and we only were bothered a few times. The live music there was very good. We went to the Jungle one night and that is an awesome club. It has two floors, and the top one is an out door bar with good music and people just hanging out. The negative part about the trip was the few locals you just didn't feel comfortable around. There were only two guys we didn't like/trust so we would just say no thanks and keep moving.

Traveler's tip:

I am telling you the words NO THANKS help out a lot on the trip. What made this trip so beautiful is the locals. Me and my friend hung out with these two guys Yellowman and Ion the whole trip and we would hit up the clubs with them. These types of people that accept you as their own just make any trip worth while and help make the trip unforgetable. The downstairs is the real night club, and if you wanna hear some mixing check that place out! One of the most fun nights we had were there.

the hotel was beautiful!! however there was tons of ants!!! being attacked by red ants when i was younger didn't make that very appealing! however we complained a few times that the ants kept comming back and they were right on top of it, by the end of our stay we didn't see any!!! the best part of the hotel was the staff!!! everyone was very friendly and accomadating!! ohhhh yeah and a tip fo advice...be careful when walking down the beach!!! everyone wants you to buy from them and they can get aggressive!!! hey... they got to make money somehow!!! enjoy!

Traveler's tip:

we wanted to see the waterfalls!! we were told by our hotel to not use the citizens who ask us to go with them on the beach becasue it wasn't safe and they didn't want to be liable. however we tried to book it through the hotel and you always needed a minumum of 4 people and it WAS double the price. we used the natives for two trips and had a wonderful time. most importantly i felt safe!!!! when going off on a trip or even to walk down the beach, the hotel takes down your room number!!!

This was the first trip to Jamaica for me and my wife. We were so very pleased with this hotel as the room was very clean, the staff was kind and helpful, except one female bartender, and the beach was super clean. We ate at hotel about 80% of the time and were very happy with selection offered. As with any buffet, the earlier you eat the freasher the food. We felt very safe walking down to a fruit market, resturants, and small grocery store. We stayed on the beach side and loved our room with the patio. It provided some privacy for us to have coffee in the morning and a late drink at nite. The drinks were good and plentiful and we were glad we took large insulated mugs with us as our drinks stayed cold to the last drop; and reduced our trips to the bar:) My next stay in Negril will definitely be at Negril Gardens.

Traveler's tip:

Don't talk to the locals unless you're ready for a long sales pitch. If you want to buy anything get to know one local person and have them with you at all times when shopping off hotel premises. Hotel staff can advise you on who to talk buisness. All inclusive is great because local resturant prices are very very high.
