Lovely tropical atmosphere. Well cared for. Not a plush resort, but great for the normal vacationer. Staff very helpful and friendly.

This is indeed a quaint hotel with its hacienda facade and near proximity to the beach. But if you are looking for a place to rest after a long day of shopping and sunbathing, this hotel is not the place. There is a bar and grill restaurant next door which keeps its guest entertained with loud live music till late in the morning. And to make matters worse, the beds are extremely firm and uncomfortable. But if you can see past these two main flaws, this hotel is just fine. It is near many little shops, it has a nice little pool and the customer service is great. One major thing that I loved was there shower. This might sound silly, but it was very spacious and the water pressure was great, unlike the other hotel that I stayed at during the last part of my stay. Bottom line, if you can overlook the hard beds and the late city noise; this hotel will do the job.

Traveler's tip:

Do not take extra cash to Mexico; just use the many ATMs and pulse out pesos from your account directly. No need for exchanging American dollars to pesos.

The Margaritas complex is a well kept annex from Playa De Oro, a de-luxe Beach Hotel across the street from Margaritas. The street is very busy and in special in the evenings smog is bothersome. Also, as soon as you hit the street, several aggresive Time-Share sales people will insist their Super-Deal on you, and -- this combination is not a contributor to the quality of Margaritas Hotel & Tennis Club. The tennis courts are in the back of the hotel, quiet and well kept. Margaritas does not have a restaurant and the restaurant next door is in the open, very noisy, and guests nearly choke in the evening pollution that in particular in that area is excessive. The smog is a result of the humid ocean evening breezes locking-in the un-regulated exhausts of hundreds of vehicles and the cute-white and open bug-taxis (old VWs) are the worst of all polluters in Mazatlan.

Traveler's tip:

My favorite in Mazatlan would be POSADA FREEMAN HOTEL, a five star Best Western at the Olas Altas Beach by the Historic District. Another good hotel in same area: Bed & Breakfast Hotel: OLD MAZATLAN INN, 1.5 blocks from Olas Altas Beach in the historic district. A place for dreamers that can enjoy the architectural uniqueness of this place. Very affordable, very clean, realy unique! American owned.

Hotel was on the farther end of the main strip, but the bus stop was infront of the hotel and lots of taxis for transportation. The room were okay but you get what you pay for. The price was very cheap. I was pleased with the service.

We really didn't care for the first room we got, it smelled really bad. They ended up switching our room and we were more comfortable in the other room. One of the main reasons we chose this place was because of the tennis courts and "pool table". In fact, there is no pool table. There are tables by the pool is what they meant by that, so a more accurate description would be " pool-side tables". Also, you have to be sitting in the pool area to get internet access, it doesn't work in the room, and you have to have your own laptop. The pool was freezing, we weren't able to swim as much as we wanted to. We had to pay to use the tennis courts, which they don't tell you either. The location was nice though, very close to shopping and right down the road from the beach. Overall, it was a nice place, family friendly, walking distance to shopping and restaurants.

If you happen to be driving, the "quota" is basically the freeway, you can drive faster and there are hardly any "topes" or speedbumps. If you take the "libre" it will take longer, more tolls, lots and lots of topes. Be sure to get the permit, the police really look for it. Also, insurance is a must, driving in Mexico is very different from driving in the United States.
