the hotel was located in a very good area but I'm a mexican native and I was offended at the fact that the people working at these establishments were not giving equal treatment to anyone who did not look american. My family and I were not attended to when we were at the bars that had white people. They only have ice on two floors. The restaurant located inside the hotel was just as bad. Our waiter never came to offer us drinks we had to go to the host to ask for our drinks. All in all, I was very dissatisfied with the treatment and the hotel appearance. The bathroom was very nasty and old. The safe kept breaking down and the refrigerator didn't work. Refrigerator was so small that I could only fit 3 waters. There also was no microwave in the room. don't go there!!!

I got a great vacation package through expedia. For the price of airfare & hotel, I think this was a great deal from SFO - PVR. However, if I was travelling to PVR and booking hotel separately, I wouldn't recommend the hotel. It is outdated and in the hotel zone (northern part). We had to take the bus every day & taxi in the evening. I knew about all of this since it was my 5th time going. But, you know...for the deal, I mean the ridiculous deal for five night...it was all worth it. We were fortunate enough to get a room on the 17th floor, great air conditioning, great views, nice living room. Yet, the main part of the hotel, lobby, restaurants, pool area looks like you're in a 70's tv show. I didn't stay much at the hotel at all and didn't even sit at the pool because, everything was slow (low, low season). Yet, I took the bus everyday from the main road and enjoyed everything PV had to offer. The staff are extremely helpful! No qualms about the staff, the actual room for a 3*, I just didn't like the location and the run down appearance, with work going on with a majority of rooms in the main high rise.

Traveler's tip:

Eat Breakfast @ Freddie Tucan's in the romantic zone! Wonderful staff, the best breakfast that we ate @ all five days of our stay in PV.

The place was very average. Long wait at the check in although there was only one customer in front of us. When settled, we asked which way to the pool and were directed to a timeshare desk instead.

Do not shop downtown on Wednesdays. Prices are marked up due to cruise ship arrivals.

Luxury for a budget traveler

The hotel was great; bright and colorful pool area in a blooming garden, surrounded by several bars/restaurants and located straight on the beach. Couldn't have been better! The service was good, 24/7 and they had lots of program organized for their guests. The only negative aspect we found was not having a fridge in the room, even the smallest box to store our own water. Not having chosen all inclusive we ended up having to buy a cooler and running in and out during the days, checking on the ice (/water). Otherwise it was a mere pleasure!

Traveler's tip:

Go downtown and dig deep into it rather than walking the promenade back and forth. This way you'll see more of the local culture, arts, crafts and nice flea markets with souvenirs to buy. Take a boat trip to experience beautiful, breathtaking views, go hiking or horsebackriding to see waterfalls and just wander around, indulging the atmosphere that's so different from what you know.

Staff super nice and helpful. Grounds- pool and beach well kept and clean. Beds super hard!!! Bathrooms have very poor lighting. But if you want quiet slightly secluded beach resort this is your place. Didn't like having to get a taxi to go out for supper every night. All the fares were different- banditos!!!

I reserved a room with king siza bed for two nights. when i check in they game me a two queen bed room I complain but they did not change my room until the next day. apart from that little thing the hotel is very good, great location, good service, clean room. I think it gives a lot for little money.

We thought the hotel was very nice. The service was excellent, the rooms were very clean, and there were lots of amenities to make our stay complete. The only negative comments I have are that the bed were very uncomfortable and the fitness center didn't have much equipment and it smelled very musty in there. Otherwise it was a great place!

Traveler's tip:

The Outdoor Adventure tour is a must. Also, dining at Pipi's downtown is also a must. Great food and great atmosphere.

Right on the beach. Great breakfast in the outdoor restaurant--easy access to bus service for downtown or anywhere you want to go.

Family Vacation with Teens from Chicago

We (with our 15 & 17 yr olds) travel frequently and have been to most beaches in Mexico and the Caribbean. We were nervous about staying at the HI(3 star). We typically stay at 5 & 4 star. The location and beach were most important to us, and we were not disappointed. The bus stop is right outside of the hotel and 5 min. bus ride to downtown for .20 each. Our kids liked going downtown each night and are picky eaters so we did not do all-inclusive. We walked across the street to Sorianos (grocery store) to buy a cooler to pack alcohol and soda for the beach (HI welcomed it). We did pre-purchase the daily breakfast buffet and it was worth it! If you walk 100 yds north on the beach and take the HI free boogie board rentals, you can get some awesome waves! We rode the bus to Wal-Mart to get on the bus to Sayulita (1 hr from HI). The waves are perfect for learning how to surf. We took a boat from our beach at HI for a 45 min boat ride near Isla Marietas 12/22/08 to see six very active whales jumping out of the water and slapping their fins on the water. It was AMAZING! Worth the trip for me! I rated the room comfort a 3 because the beds were rock hard. We had a great view of the beach, but were too close to the Lobby Bar and had to sleep with earplugs every night, as the music and noise goes till 2 am every night! I would give up the view for peace and quiet next time. On your way home, stop for awesome tacos across the street from the airport at Taco Robert for .30 each.

Traveler's tip:

Go to the grocery store to get a cooler and pack it full of drinks and a bag of snacks, if you have picky eaters. The all-inclusive won't be worth it if you don't like rice, beans and typical bland mexican food. Most all-inclusives have cheap beer. This way you can drink the good stuff from the store.
