We have been there 3 times so far, it is still excellent but I found the food quality has deteriorated. It is still excellent compare to the other all inclusive hotels , maybe it is the economy or they are going amss production like the other hotels.

Fabulous Retreat!!!

Our vacation at this fabulous retreat was better than expected and certainly agree with previous reviews of this hotel. The service was outstanding in all areas (except maybe the French restaurant where they dropped the ball at the end), but the staff is friendly, call you by name and will do anything to make sure you are happy and comfortable. Our suite was gorgeous, with a sun bed on the huge patio just a few yards from the ocean. The only issue we had was the tipping. The hotel was to be all-inclusive, but the Mexican restaurant left room for a tip. When we asked at the front desk about this, they said we could tip if we want. That was uncomfortable for us, because we were not sure what to do. Make sure to take plenty of sunscreen as you can be fooled at the end of the day at the pool bar :) If you want to absolutely relax and be pampered ............THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! ENJOY!

Do not get the $64 transfer from airport to hotel. It's much cheaper to pay for cabs both ways!!! We do recommend "swimming with the dolphins", which is an added package. Puerto Vallarta is a 20 minute cab ride; also a nice getaway if you chose to leave the site.

We had a suite that included a 2nd story terrace with a jacuzzi. The views are unbelievable. We really enjoyed the food in their dining restaurants. The only downside is that you have to dress up to get in. My husband showed up in shorts and flip-flops and they wouldn't sit us. However, they did let him borrow a pair of pants and didn't mention anything about his flip-flops...go figure. Overall very nice, quality hotel with friendly staff members.

My Wife and I went the week after 4th of July. We were greeted by the staff upon exiting our cab and seated in the lobby with cold drinks while they arranged our registration. From this point until we departed we received the best service I've ever had in a hotel. Room - We had the Ambassador Penthouse. If you want to entertain a group without having them inside your main room this is the way to go. The separate / private jacuzzi area can accomodate a good sized group and has its own restroom. Combine this with the 24 hour suite service and bottle service and you have the makings of a nice party. Pool - Simply amazing. Look for Cecilio at the pool bar. He'll remember your name and greet you with your favorite beverage throughout your stay. Beach - The beach is clean and quiet. There are a few vendors who have licenses from G.V. to be on the beach, but they are not obtrusive. Restaurants - Our favorite was the Mexican cuisine; though the food is more like that of Spain than typical Mexican. Great seafood and meats with a spicy touch. Our least favorite was the French one. The lighting was bad, the food was not that good, and the staff there seemed to have adopted the French snobiness. Spa - Some have noted that it's a bit pricey. Book a massage and allow yourself time to indulge in the steam rooms and wet areas; it's worth the price.

Traveler's tip:

Men need long pants, collared shirts and decent shoes for the evening restaurants. Women can wear shorts / capris.

The Hotel was beautiful. The service was the best we have ever experienced. Everyone treated us like royalty. We are definitely going to return this winter. We have recommended the hotel to all our friends.

Take a Taxi to the Hotel from the airport. The fees being charged from the site is very expensive. The Hotel is only 4 miles from the airport.

Excellent hotel. Great food. One of the nicest pool areas I have seen. Rooms were great and clean but had a very slight musty smell which is probably just the norm for anywhere in that climate. Service was fantastic but this was an unusual situation because the hotel was deserted due to the silly panic over the swine flu. The all inclusive food and drinks were top quality. I would be concerned if the hotel was at normal occupancy how they could fit everyone in the smaller more upscale restaurants so may need to book ahead in a normal situation. Spa is very expensive.

Traveler's tip:

1. Go when there is a silly panic over swine flu...you will have the place to yourself. ; ) 2. Be sure to ask for a higher level room even if they take you to a lower floor first. The view from the 7th & 8th floors is fantastic. I think most if not all of the rooms have ocean views unless you are below the third floor.

This was our first family vacation with our 16 month old son. My husband and I wanted a 5 star resort that would not be too stuffy or uncomfortable with our toddler..Grand Velas was perfect! Our room was HUGE-separate living area from the bedroom..The pool was great..so much privacy..the service & the food were excellent (we liked the food at Frida the most) I would HIGHLY recommend this resort

Great property with extremely friendly staff. Very nice pool and a very nice beach. The hotel provides surf board, floaters etc and my son had a great time playing with them. Kids camp was nice, could have been better. Most of the time kids were watching TV or playing video games. They did have some nice avtivities like Piniata making, treasure hunt. All three restaurants were nice although very limited choice for vegetarians. Chef was nice enough to custom make something for us. Room service very effecient and prompt.

Traveler's tip:

Take the local bus. It takes about 1 dollar one way, and the cab takes abt $12. You get good local experience.

Very nice place! Staff ready to help at any moment. Kids Club was enjoyed by both our kids and us the couple times we dropped in. Pool(s) were spectacular. Very quiet (not crowded) overall when we were there early April and that was a great time to go for great weather.

I was really impressed by the hotel's appearance, cleanliness, service was by the far most impressive and better than any hotel in the U.S. I stayed at the Four Season's Maui and this hotel was far better.
