The hotel was awesome, great service, clean rooms, amazing beach and pool. Speaking Spanish is a real help, both at the hotel and off resort. Activities get booked early as do the restaurants so be agressive about early bookings. Food is horrible, both at the buffet and the restaurants, so bring your own or be prepared to replace food with alcohol. Overall I would go back based on what I saw at other resorts but I'd bring snacks.
Traveler's tip:
Absolutly go off the resort, so much fun, great clubs, friendly people, awesome music, but drinks are similar to US prices. Speaking Spanish is a huge benefit, and wouldn't urge women to go off resort alone.

I found that the resort offered everything it promised. The rooms are very nice and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience.

The hotel is in great condition. The staff is always around cleaning or maintaining the landscape. Everyone is friendly and as helpful as they can be given the occasional language barrier. (It IS a foreign country after all...don't expect that the whole world speaks English!) The food is decent, like any buffet some selections are better than others. The specialty restaurants are excellent...we ate at the Octopus and the Italian place. No extra charge but make reservations early, as they are small and fill up fast. The beach is ok, not as nice as the beach at Punta Cana, but the resort keeps their area groomed and relatively clean. Lots of unabashed Europeans on the beach in Speedos...or less...so don't be surprised! Locals sell everything you can imagine on the beach, but they are all licensed and are not pushy if you simply say "No Thanks"...or pretend to be asleep! Time Share salesmen all around the Playa Dorado complex, so if you leave the hotel to walk around be aware. Thise guys are a little more pushy than the beach salespeople. Other guests not too considerate of those who want to sleep at 2am, but that's not the hotel's fault. Overall a nice place for a few days.
