Extremely beautiful resort. Service is impeccable. The grounds are extraordinary, too gorgeous to describe in words. Would go back in a heartbeat! For food, enjoy the Mexican restaurant, room service, the pool cafe, and the beach restaurant for lunch only. For dinner the beach restaurant was a disappointment, too slow and too small for the price, but do enjoy their outside bar lounge in the evening, very relaxing.

Traveler's tip:

Enjoy a guided boat tour and the bicycles included in your stay. Visit the spa for a wonderful massage experience.

One of the nicest hotels that my husband and I have ever stayed at. I can't say enough about the friendly staff at this resort! Every staff bent over backwards to help us during our stay. The hotel is beautiful! The grounds are impecablly maintained! The beds were extremely comfortable. The beach was incredible! The only constructive things I can say is that it is expensive to get into Playa del Carmen....$20 taxi ride each way! Although the hotel restaurants were nice, we like to go to many different restaurants. Food prices at the hotel were high. All things considered, I would highly recommend this hotel. A great experience!!

Traveler's tip:

The Laguna Restaurant offers a wonderful breakfast buffet, but it was a bit pricey at $25 per person.

My boyfriend and I definitely recommend the Fairmont Mayakoba - the minute you enter the gates it's like being transported to another world. The service is excellent and the staff is friendly and helpful. There were a couple times where we had to call to follow-up on laundry pick-up and to fix our screen door but otherwise response time was excellent. Once when our waiter at the restaurant in the lobby took a tad too long to bring our drinks he ended up just putting it on the house which was unexpected. The food at the resort is excellent and is comparable to eating out at a decent/nice restaurant in LA. For being at almost 100% capacity the resort never felt "full", and it had just the right amount of people to keep you entertained but maintain privacy. For younger couples who are looking for a "scene" this would not be the place - but as a couple in our 20s and 30s from Los Angeles who were looking for a getaway - this was perfect. Our Signature Deluxe Casita in the 600 block was awesome and perfectly located. We definitely recommend the Willow Stream Spa - the Food of the Gods Body treatment and Yucatan Healing Retreat for couples were delightful.

Traveler's tip:

Check out the 12th and 1st in Playa Del Carmen - off of Quintana Avenida - for bars/clubs. There's a great hookah bar with white interior where the drinks are delicious and cheap.

Although the hotel room was nice (shower stall leaked all over the floor), the food was awful. The decor of the restaurants felt very un-exclusive. For the price, I would think that the restaurants would be better decorated. The food was more expensive than even in a luxury resort in the US. They pretty much took all the Mexico out of this Mexican resort. Perhap they could bring in a top chef to redo their food.

The hotel and grounds were a unique experience. We saw lots of fish and birds right from the comfort of our own balcony!! The complimentary bicycles are a great way to take in the gounds as well. The service and spa are other reasons why we intend to stay here again.

My husband and I went on vacation to Mexico for my birthday/ 5 year anniversary and had a wonderful time! As soon as arrived to the Fairmont Mayakoba we were so impressed! We were greeted by a cool and refreshing punch upon entering the lobby. What a treat on a hot day! The rooms were comfortable, the amenities are great. We stayed at a room overlooking the lagoon. It was beautiful. The infinity pool by the beach is nice and relaxing. I hightly recommend the Willow Spa!! We did the couples massage and it was quite an experience! You have access to the spa amenities all day on the day you have your spa service. The amenities are worth it! The one complaint that I do have is that our housekeeper didn't clean our room very well each night. Our bathroom floor wasn't swept and one night he/she forgot to take out our garbage. Also, I wouldn't eat every meal at the hotel since it could be pricey. Other than that...it was a trip to remember and the Fairmont Mayakoba played a huge part in that!

Traveler's tip:

Although some of the restaurants in Playa Del Carmen are a bit pricey...you can always find something less expensive than the hotel. There is a big scene in Playa -- definitely check it out if you are looking for a nightlife!

We just got back from our 5 night stay at the Mayakoba. This place is nothing short of luxurious splendor! We got to see the other resorts when we went on a few day tours and had to pick up other travelers and the Mayakoba was definately the best choice! Our room was gorgeous and had a private balcony overlooking one of the lagoon's many canals. We took tons of pictures of the bathroom as we are renovating a new home and want our new master bath to look just like the one in our hotel room! The service was impressive: any time we had a request the front desk was very prompt with making sure we had whatever we needed. The staff around the hotel was equally helpful. There were so many pools that we never even had a chance to visit them all (however the pool with the swim up bar was a must) especially since the beach was so breathtaking. And from what we found most other resort's beaches were nowhere near as nice.

Traveler's tip:

Make sure you bring insect repellent if you take the boat around the property, (the only time we got bit by mosquitoes). Also, make sure you bring plenty of snacks with you:it gets very pricey (3.50 for a Coke and 3.00 for a small bag of chips). Lastly bring some fancier clothing for the restaurants; they do have dress codes.

The Fairmont Mayakoba exceeded all our expectations! It was beautifull, clean, very well staffed and just everything we could have wished for. The rooms are airy, bright, there is a maid service that comes by twice a day, (turndown servce) and they are very curteos and respectfull. The staff is very professional and bilingual.

Traveler's tip:

The hotel has a travel agency, but we found that going into PLaya del Carmen and booking there (for scuba) there were a lot more options and the prices were quite cheaper then at the hotel. The "Limo" tour of Chichen Itza is well worth the money (100.00usd) per person

Beautiful place with natural surrondings. Mayakoba is a first rate resort. We wished the food would match the environment.

Traveler's tip:

The food at the resort is unreasonbly expensive. Go to playa del Carmen for dinner. Buy your own water, they charge NINE dollars for a bottle.

The hotel is an extremly beautiful place. The service was great. The beach and pools were very nice. It was not crowded at all. Our only negative coment would be the price of food and drinks. We felt the food and drink service was a little pricey. Other than that we had a wonderful time.

The Mayakoba was a beautiful hotel. It is truly set in a tropical garden. The service was exceptional !!! The staff was extremely pleasent and accomodating. The scenery was beyond our expectations, the pictures do not do it justice. I would definetely recommend this hotel, it is the best I have stayed in !!!

Traveler's tip:

You should take a taxi to the Playa del Carmen Plaza, it is great place for shopping and dining. Also, make sure to exchange your money for Mexican pesos, not all places accept American dollars.

We had a fabulous time at the Mayakoba. Even though we were an hour form Cancun, we were nice and secluded which is nice if you want to just relax. Playa del Carmen is a 15 minute drive is you don't want to trek all the way to Cancun. I would defeinitely recommend couples and familes to stay here. The beach is beautiful as well as the many pool on the resort! We feel that the pictures on the expedia site don't do it justice..the resort is beautiful.

The hotel is wonderful. The rooms are great, the facilities are very nice, but the service is lousy. For the prices you pay you expect an excellent service, unfortunately your vacations can become a nightmare. I am not kidding when I say you have to wait at least 1 hr. to get a diet coke. There is nothing to eat but french fries, burgers, sandwiches, wraps. The staff is very polite and they try to do their best, but it seems everything is a management problem.

An indifferent staff notable for their unwillingness to assist was the hallmark of this hotel. The 4.5 rating is unearned - 3.0 stars would be the highest our family would award. We continuously had to ask for the simplest items - for example wash clothes! Calls to the front desk often went unanswered - despite the fact that this was the hotel's slow season.

Very impressive! We were treated like royalty throughout our stay. The staff was friendly, professional and helpful. The service was excellent. The beach was gorgeous, the grounds impeccibly maintained, and the water channels were a great touch. Outstanding golf course.

Not a bargain, especially for a family of six. Prices are a bit high inside the resort, not unexpectedly. We found two meals a day were plenty, especially as the Café Maya sold pastries, deli sandwiches, snacks, drinks throughout the day. Still, wish they'd offered an all-inclusive package.

This hotel is gorgeous. Rooms are large, the beds comfortable, the staff is attentive. The beach is stunning, and the nearest adjacent resort is about a mile away (though a new place is going in about half a mile to the North). Is the Mayakoba for you? That depends. In my opinion, the target customer for this hotel is a businessman, an older or more conservative couple, etc. My wife (47) and I (48) were traveling with our kids--23 and 15. The hotel was pretty sedate even for us, pretty expensive, and there was really nothing for the kids to do other than swim. Obviously we knew about the room cost going in, but we were surprised by the food cost--about $75 US per meal for the 4 of us. A 1-liter bottle of water in the convenience store cost $4 US. The main restaurant available for dinner required dressy clothing. A cab ride into PDC cost anywhere between $15 and $20 US--each way. If these conditions don't bother you, you will probably have a great time at the Mayakoba. We ended up buying breakfast foods, snacks, liquor, and beer in PDC at the Mega (it is cheaper than the Walmart) and had a great time on the gorgeous beaches. We ate about half our dinners in town and loved it.

Traveler's tip:

Look at one of the many online forums for Playa del Carmen to get tips on where to eat--we loved the food in town, with particular kudos to Pescado, Yexcha, and a small fajita shack a block inland from 5th and 2 blocks south of Constituyentes Ave.

My wife and I only had 3 days to get away and choose the Mayakoba on a recommendation from a friend. Everything was 5 star in my opinion. The resort is absolutely beautiful, very well maintained. Beach is perfect, pools are excellent. The service was top notch. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and made us feel very welcomed. Most rooms are not right on the beachfront, but there are bikes to ride and golf carts to take you where ever you want to go. We did not want to leave and will definitely be going back.

Excellent choice. The beach was extraordinary, the service was fine, some waitress took too much to serve you. But is an incredible experience.

Traveler's tip:

If you rent a car, be aware the price for ballet parking is about $ 14.00 dlls each day. The car is probably cheaper than the parking. Read the manual book in the hotel room, it said the parking was free!. We talked with royal service and we didn't have to pay.
