I expected a lot more from this hotel given the price. The pool facilities were outstanding, and my family and I really enjoyed the live music in the lobby on Friday and Saturday. However, the staff gave us no introduction to the facilities when we arrived, and the room was not thoroughly cleaned from day to day. The bathroom floor was constantly wet due to the open shower, and there were not enough places to hang wet towels. The room had no balcony, so there was no private outdoor space. As for the beach, the surf was rough, and there was a riptide, so it wasn't very safe to wade in the ocean with my toddler. Also the beach was littered with cigarette butts, and annoying music could be heard from the pool area during the day. None of the restaurants in the hotel served Puerto Rican food, except the Starbucks, which offered Puerto Rican coffee in a french press.

Request a separate mini-fridge for your room. If you remove items from the mini-bar and use the fridge for your own personal food, you will be charged $10.00. The on-site laundry is very expensive, but there is a drop-off laundrymat a few miles away. Ask the concierge for directions. Also, exploring El Morro and flying kites on the lawn outside with my toddler was the highlight of our trip--don't miss it!

I was born in Paradise. I was born in Puerto Rico. I was blessed with a very influential and affluent family. Since I was a very small kid, I remember our father taking me and my sisters to this wonderful hotel. In the past we meet VIP's all over the world. I still remember the elegance of the lobby and ballrooms. Recently I return to the island in business and due to my memories I stay at the El San Juan Hotel. I perceived immediately that the new management company of the hotel wants to capture customers of the Generation X. Even the old employees miss the old times. The also understand the economics of the new millennium and globalization. The service is good. There is still some elegance, but do not pack your Armani suit, reserve that for the Ritz Carlton, one block away

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and we stayed at this hotel. We absolutely loved it. I booked a room with a king bed, expecting just that. When we checked in I mentioned that we were on our honeymoon and I think they gave us an upgrade. Our room was amazing! Great view - unbelievable shower. Pools and beach were beautiful. Staff was always attentive to our every need.

Traveler's tip:

Do not use the phone in your room. A local call cost us $12.67, and no one answered. Food and drinks at the hotel are very pricey, but good. It's easy to rack up a big bill upon checkout, but make sure to check it thoroughly. They put other room charges on our bill.

The hotel was amazing! The rooms were nice and the rear pool was great. They had a live dj. The best part was the bar in the pool. You have to eat at The Palms in the hotel. The best food I have ever had. Be prepared to spend some money, though. Everything is alittle over priced, but the views at the beach is worth it.

Traveler's tip:

Visit the Morro at the end of Old San Juan. Beautiful!!!!

We had a wonderful time. Service was top rate; staff was friendly and helpful - - guest services exceeded our expectations. Food and drinks are pricey at this hotel, but the hotel restaurants are 5 star quality. Every night there is like a neighborhood party with a band and the locals come there for fun; however, you can also relax in your room without being disturbed. Pools were really nice and the beach was the best beach that we have ever experienced - -clean and comfortable. Entire week's stay was impressive. Great local restaurants within walking distance - - easy and reasonable to take taxi's anywhere and close to many local events. We'll go back there in the future. (Evening attire varies from upscale casual to full out dressy - - - locals really dress up to dance and hang out in evenings. The evenings did not end until around 4AM. We did not stay out that late, but it was cool to have the option to do whatever you wanted to do 24/7.)

Traveler's tip:

Local grocery local within walking distance - - you can purchase anything you want at USA cost. Great, reasonable prices on local restaurants within walking distances - Mi Casitas was one of our favorites - local food - great prices. There are also many USA fast food restaurants in the area - Burger King, Subway, Wendy's, etc.

From the moment you get there the staff are incredibly helpful. The rooms have been remodedled - they are ultra modern with iHomes in each one. The pool and beach are beautiful and kept clean and safe by the staff and security guards. The hotel lobby is fully of energy at night with a nightly band.

This is my second time at this hotel and it still takes me to another world. The sights and scenery invoke nothing but relaxation. From Thursday night to Saturday night, live music and a nightclub liven up the night with so many choices of entertainment. I'll be booking another stay next year.

Traveler's tip:

It is literally five minutes from the airport. I had two bags with me and it cost $10.50 to the hotel. Refuse shuttle buses which will charge you alot more.

This has the most amazing lobby with something always going on. Great bars. A friendly casino. However, the rooms were just ok. The bathroom very small and there was a little mold. The chair situation at the pool was rediculous. My 13 year older daughter enjoyed this hotel, but not the bathroom!! The staff was extremely friendly.

Great resort that offers something for everyone... Beach, pool, top restaurants, nightlife, casino, lounge. Good place for families, couples and singles to stay. Professional, friendly and courteous service.

Traveler's tip:

There is always something going on in Puerto Rico but not everything is open at once. Defnitely must spend time in Old San Juan.. La Fortaleza Street and San Sebastian. Jet-skiing is also a must in the warm blue-green ocean. Also, venture out and go to the spots where the locals go(some are walking distance from the hotel).

Horrible Managment!!!!!!

The Hotel has changed drastically for the worst since I was there several years ago. The security was lacking and my friend was harrassed by a non hotel guest at the bar where managment had to step in and escort her out but she never left and they did nothing about it. Also new rooms have no place to put anything so we lived out of a suitcase. One small closet to hang 10 items. When you opened the door of the bathroom you had to walk around the toilet bowl. These are not acceptable things. They had a large party at the pool for Coors Light and all the locals people not from the Hotel came. Isn't a Hotel suppose to accomodate its guests first. Thanks, Lisa

The public facilities on the 1st floor are top notch but the room itself left a lot to be desired. The bathroom is completely impractical. The towels are across the room from the shower and there is no hook next to the shower to hang the towel so you have to use the open bathroom door. The shower itself is designed so water sprays on the bathroom floor (no shower curtain). The electrical outlets are hidden (took 2 days to find them). The door swings so close to the toilet you have to stand behing the door to open or close it. The main room has no storage for luggage that puts it out of sight. Give this one a pass. Stay elsewhere and visit the casino, bar, and restaurants.
