We usually go to Puerto Vallarta but had to visit Mazatlan to deliver a boat. We needed something close to the marina and the El Cid was perfect. This resort while a little far from the city center fills the bill for those wanting a great palce to stay. Due to the economy the rates were excellent, the hotel and rooms are beautiful and well maintained. Would highly recommend if you don't mind being out a little ways from the tourist center. The hotel restaurant was OK but thre are many great places within 3-4 miles.

Everything is perfect here, excellent food and service, the only drawback was a bit of wet floor in the bathroom when we arrived

Front desk and all we dealt with were very accommodating and helpful. Location was excellent. Fun to watch the big fishing boats.

Traveler's tip:

The bus and scooters are a cheap way to get around. No need to rent a car.

Hotel or time share center?

Appealing hotel with a wonderful view of the marina. Unfortunately relentless time share activities already start to spoil the leisure effect during breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The lack of enough guests led to a scarce entertainment program. The service is normally very good, but some employees prefer their convenience over helping guests. Excellent shuttle service to other El Cid hotels, where all inclusive guests enjoy good food at several specialty restaurants.

Traveler's tip:

Take a cheap bus ride to downtown Mazatlan and dive into the central market activities and offers.

We loved the view. The hotel doesn t seem too new but it is extremely relaxing. The megapass is not very helpful unless you want to do many activities...we thought we could use it as we wished...but no...they are only discounts. That would be the only negative aspect we could find. We would definitely go back.

Great place on the Marina! Had a 1 bedroom which was very nice cause of all the space. Good service and the restaurant there has very good food. North of Golden Zone means its quieter than other hotels--fewer spring breakers. Some rooms can see the ocean and the marina but they do have an ocean beach area if you prefer on other side of the marina. Fun to watch the fishermen come back in the afternoon to see what was caught (or not caught). Games at poolside available w/prizes given to the winner.

Traveler's tip:

Free hotel shuttle to the other El Cids puts you in the Golden Zone with all the action or take the Bus for 8 pesos--Cheap! Heather's Place had great shrimp! Gus&Gus had a Terrific band! and inexpensive food.

The Marina El Cid is beautifully situated on the marina in Mazatlan. You can sit in your room and watch all the gorgeous boats go in and out of the marina. You can even take a small water taxi across the inlet to go to the beach on the other side. And watch the fishing boats come in with their catch of the day. Very fun. The pools are fun, being able to swim under the grotto and up to the aqua bar!

The El Cid Marina is very nice. This was my second time staying at the Marina and I would definitely stay again !

Traveler's tip:

We took the Copola Tour, Country Tour, City Tour and the Tequilla Tour. I would recommend any of these. They are all EXCELLENT tours. Also, the Market downtown is an experience and something I think everyone should see.

Hotel is rated 3 star which is very accurate. Not in the greatest of repair, but everything works, clean, service personnel are very polite and helpful. A great place if you just want to relax. The other sibling resorts down the street are very nice, but are frequented by mostly nationals and families. The best pool was more cold than cool. The other amenities (gym, salon/spa)are located in the sibling resorts. It would have been more convenient if the Marina had at least a gym. The timeshare people are fairly low-key. We kindly declined and received very little resistance. Several fellow tourists were time-share owners who love this resort. Mazatlan in general is probably less busy due to there is not a great deal of things to visit (no ruins, fair scuba diving) but the water is warmer than Cabo (better scuba diving). Also you can walk thru the market and along the beach without rubbing shoulders (nice!). We visited during Thanksgiving Holiday, if that matters. I will definitely plan another visit.

Traveler's tip:

Buy a round-trip shuttle ticket at the airport in the little round kiosk(when you step outside,it is right in front of you). It was 50% less than a taxi. Sure you get a chat with the timeshare guy, but with the others on the shuttle, he will spend very little time with you. & check out at least 1 of the 2 of the Markets they have before you buy from the beach vendors.

If you wanted privacy and a nice chill place, this is it - less families, etc.. but no immediate access to a beach which was a bit of a pain. Also, right when we walked in the door, a pushy time share lady tried to get us to go to some demonstrations and it put me right off. Nice pools, good room..
