The resort was incredible! Great service, plenty of activities...or just loung around on the beach. Had a great time--can't wait to go back. BTW the food was delicious!!

Traveler's tip:

Dunn's River falls, White river tubing, and ATV!

We really enjoyed our time at Couples San Souchi! The hotel is beautiful; the scenery is unbelievable. Truly looks like paradise. It was quiet, comfortable, relaxing, beautiful, very special! Our only two complaints would be: 1) lots of steps (which cannot be helped because it's built into the side of the mountain), and 2) I would have liked my bathroom floor to be cleaner. We did also have trouble with our shower being very slow to drain. On the positive side, the steps probably helped us to not gain weight:)! The food was great, the service was outstanding, the room was very comfortable, the couples' massages were the best we have ever had, the hotel itself and grounds are immaculate and very beautiful. Everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and cared for.

Traveler's tip:

We participated in the Dunn's River Falls excusion. Thankfully, it was included in our hotel cost; otherwise, we would not have spent the money to go. We did not enjoy Dunn's River Falls very much; we were hurried along way too fast to even enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The guides were brash and not pleasant to us. The shops at the end of the excursion made us feel uncomfortable with their insistance to shop. We would not recommend this excursion.

My wife and I went to this resort based on other reviews we read and were not disappointed. We paid alittle extra to be bumped up a step in room quality and it was well worth it...we loved our sitting room and veranda. The room service was great and the food always provided us enough variety to keep things interesting and new. The beach was somewhat small but there were plenty of activities offered and there was always something fun to do. Very close to Dunns River Falls which is a must see for any Jamaica trip.

Traveler's tip:

Shell out the extra few bucks for a nicer room!

In one word, Hotel Sans Souci is Romance. It is hidden in nature, built into the cliffs and blended around the trees and perfectly nestled by the water. The rooms are quaint, with balconies, and all have ocean views. The beds were comfortable, and each room has a top shelf liquor selection along with a fridge full of soda, juice, and (of course) red stripe. What it comes down to is if you're the type that only likes the large chain conglomerate hotels where all the rooms look the same no matter what city you're in and you want the largest possible swimming pool ever made (even though the ocean is right there), this may not be the right hotel. This is more of a boutique hotel resort that is uniquely romantic, beautiful, and memorable. I've been to all-inclusive resorts all over the Caribbean, but Couples Sans Souci stands out in my mind like no other. Oh, also, the food is so good it's in another class all together than any all-inclusive I've ever stayed in. If you told me I had to pay $50 - $75 a person for the dinners I had there, I would fork it over in a heartbeat. Get the Sans Souci Special dessert and the Calamari at the Italian REstaurant. Service is great, staff is all smiles and friendly and helpful. They say not to tip but believe me, you will find yourself wanting to. Bottom line, my rule of thumb is to never go back to the same vacation so I can experience lots of different places, but I'll be back at Sans Souci sometime soon. Go!

Traveler's tip:

Buy your souveniers on the way home in the airport... much cheaper and you can carry on.

The hotel was very heart warming and attention to detail was a priority. The suite was like being at home and the room service was prompt and courteous. The restaurants and bars was convenient to your rooms and was plentiful. Different varities of food was plentiful and excellent. The activities were mild and relaxing including the glass bottom boat ride. I feel this was a hot spot for lovers. I encourage all lovers or hopeful romantics to go. My husband and I am very pleased and would go back in a heart beat. The only dislike is the hotel is a 2hr ride from the airport.

Traveler's tip:

The shopping strip and Dunn rivers fall was excellent

Couples Sans Souci has the friendliest staff members, from the wait staff, to water sports instructors, all were top notch! The rooms exceeded all expectations. There were so many activities and restaurant choices that we did not feel the need to go outside of the resort.

The wife and I stayed at Couples Sans Souci September 1-8. It was the typical "no worries" Couples experience. Excellent accomodations, excellent food, excellent service. The beach was not as beautiful as Swept Away in Negril where we stayed last year, but no beach I've ever seen can compare to 7 mile beach or Bloody Bay. Still it had it's upside. It was completely private (no vendors)and felt virtually empty given the fact that the resorts 148 rooms were at 50% capacity during our stay. The Palazzina restaurant, beach bar, and Bella Vista (Beach Grill) were all right on the beach. The Palazzina featured the breakfast and lunch buffets. There was a good deal of stair climbing required for the Cassanova Restaurant, Spa, Balloon Bar, and Gym but again ... No Worries.

Part of the reason we chose Couples Sans Souci was because of T&L's rating as one of the 25 best resorts in the Caribbean and the AAA Four Diamond rating. We'd like to know what criteria was used for these choices, since the overall maintenance of the resort was not up to our usual 5 star standards. The spot is beautiful, as is the arrangement of the complex, etc., but the place is need of some updating and many, many minor repairs (ie., loose concrete next to sidewalks, broken light fixtures, exposed wiring, worn curtains, etc.) -- things you wouldn't expect to see at a resort of this level. The food, however, was stellar. Every single meal we ate from every single restaurant, including room service was nothing short of five star. The best was the food at Casanova -- absolutely incredible. The staff was wonderfully friendly and attentive. The ride from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is long, and probably not worth it, if you can find a similar place closer to Montego Bay.

My girlfriend and I truly enjoyed Couples San Souci. Some of the criticisms I read before booking were more or less valid and others were clearly very picky people who probably are rarely satisfied with anything. The two good restaurants are very good, with Casanova's being the better of the two. The wine poured for free is decent. You can pay a little more and get great wine (at much less than the normal price of the great wine). The service at the restaurants was great. The compelled dining events (Friday "gala" and Tuesday beach party) are lame. The buffet food is typically disgusting. But if you like buffet food, I'm sure its lovely. The entertainment was corny and touristy, but was pleasant enough. There are too many diverse people there to have music that anyone really loves. The music has to appeal to a broad range of people. The staff is accomodating and pleasant. People that tip are treated better than those who don't. Is that a surprise? If you chat with some of the watersports staff, you can get some really great private activities, like a private champagne tour of the north side of the island. The rooms are well taken care of and nice. The tv could have better reception, but I didn't go to Jamaica to watch tv anyway, right? It is critically important to sign up for activities and make restaurant reservations as soon as you get there. Everything fills up. Dunn's River Falls is a great outing, but you have to be up for the physicality of it.

Traveler's tip:

Bring 1$ bills for tips. Sign up for activities and reserve restaurant times asap. Bring your own water shoes or buy them at the gift shop (don't rent them on the way) for Dunn's River Falls. Enjoy!

I think the food at breakfast and the buffet could be better. I expected more papaya, guava, and mango, indigenous to the island.

make sure you leave 4 hours before your flight back to the US.

This was our first experience with an all inclusive resort and we were skeptical. Well, our exspectations were met 100 fold. If there indeed is paradise on earth it has to be Couples Sans Souci. The setting was breathtaking, the service was 5 star, and the food and drink were both plentifull and first class. The thing that struck my new bride and I most was the true graciousness of the staff. There was nothing we asked for that wasn't cheerfully supplied with a " Ya Man, no problem".

Traveler's tip:

Don't book a bunch of excursions. You won't want to leave the property.

This was my second trip to ochos rios but first time at couples. It was the best time of my life. I found myself doing activities that I would not have tried ever. The staff was awesome, the food was great and the drinks were heaven. Five star Guanrantee!!!!! Made a lot of new friends and can't wait to go back. If this is a glimpse of things to come for me and my husband, we are looking forward to a long, happy life.

Traveler's tip:

Make sure you take advantage of all the inclusive activities on and off site.

My husband & I were married here in 2000 and returnded in 2002. Those times were remarkable... this time I was very disapointed. Ever since Couples bought out previous owner, this resort has become the Corporate Resort that I try to avoid. Most guests we spoke to at the resort loved it, and it is still a very nice place to stay but I was lucky enough to experience it before when the service, food, maintenance, and overall charm was of a higher quality. Corporate "Couples - San Souci" signs litter the property, guess what? We (the guests) know where we are, you don't need to bombard us with your tacky signage everywhere. FYI if you are getting married here be aware that they have placed a very Tacky 3 foot sign in the wedding gazebo "couples - sans souci" It is directly in the way of the best picture location for your wedding videos and photos. If I were you, ask them to cover up the tacky sign or better yet, Couples, take it down. Maintenance is badly needed in the outdated rooms and the furniture in the rooms is the exact furniture I remember from 7 years ago. For what guests pay to stay here they really need to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. Food choices aren't as grand as they were when we were there before, but it still is a great spread every day. Staff is still very nice, be nice to them and they will be nice to you. Spa is still the best I have ever visited, and I only go to resorts that offer spa services.

Traveler's tip:

take small bills with you, if those vendors see you pulling out 20's or higher they swarm around you like bees.

We had a bad weather it rain 5 out of 7 days.Kind of depresing, but the hotel room (we had 1 bedroom, with a superb view)it was big,we watched TV,stayed on the balcony, went to the beach(when the sun was out). The hotel it's well organized with all kind of activities,if you have good weather you can't keep up with every hour events.Every night it was a show with music, games and good time.Food it's excellent and plenty of drinks. There are a lot of stairs and that helped after a big meal.Overall we are pleased with the hotel, hospitality, enterteinment, food, drinks, activities.

Traveler's tip:

Don't miss the free trip to Dun's River, and pay the few extra $ for the video, you can't use your camera anyway. We enjoyed the horse back riding, and the water tubing trip on White River. It rained on all these activities but it was fun. Shopping, we took a taxi $25.00 round trip to the Sony Plaza,it was safe and we bought from the Jamaican people not from the big stores, they were happy to cut a deal with you so don't be afraid to bargain,it's fun. Take lots of one dollar bill with you.

The entire experience completely exceeded our expectations. Drive to hotel: 2 hrs but fascinating; Room: G block, amazing views, could use some updating but very clean; Food: Consistently top notch, no tepid buffets, dessert heaven; Drinks: Very heavy handed pouring, not for lightweights; Grounds: Paradise found in the midst of a tropical garden; Staff: Treat others as you would like to be treated and you will never have a problem, very kind/courteous; Beach: Small but lovely; Activities: All water sports included, helpful staff, newer equipment; Entertainment: Great music every night but don't expect hard party atmosphere; Perfect resort to relax and unwind without ever feeling bored. We strongly recommend it.

Traveler's tip:

We participated in 3 tours: 1. Dunns River Falls: Included in hotel stay, fun to climb 2. River tubing on White River: 1 hr lazy river ride in inner tubes, beautiful, no big rapids 3. Full day trip to Appleton Rum Estate, YS Waterfalls, Black River boat ride: Long day but well worth it. See Jamaica away from hotel zone, rum distillery tour, stop at waterfalls (great picture taking), boat trip on Black River that is protected crocodile sanctuary.

I wish instead of catering too much to the Euro/American tourists and cooking very westernized meals, that they would serve traditional Jamaican meals and serve Jamaican fruits like sweetsop and soursop. The food they served, although great the first night, by the second night, third, etc--it was eghhh. It got old.
