Great food, great location, beach across the street. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at the hotel restaurant, "ME". While the beach IS across the street, there is an underground tunnel for easy access. (not that it's all that hard to cross the street). You're halfway between El Centro and the "golden zone" and it's easy to walk to either. One note...All the rooms (except the suites) have two single beds. We upgraded to a suite for this reason. Definitely worth the extra and nice having a jacuzzi on the massive balcony.

When upgrading to one of the suites - complete with large terrace - on the 4th floor - overlooking the ocean, it was wonderful. The hotel is relatively new and has a good restaurant attached to (ME) - great friendly service and a relatively upscale menu. The hotel faces the ocean and is in a good location to get to the "Old Town" area or the "golden zone".......either way was a low cost Pulmonia ride - which was very easy to access. One point to note, is that it would be nice to have a refridgerator in a room of that quality - that would be the only improvement we would make. - enjoy, we did!

Don't stay at an all inclusive restaurant - for the food - there are some really nice restaurants to sample - all at really reasonable prices! Try Panchos ( inthe Golden Zone) - the owner is a really friendly person, or Habanerros - in the Old Town - plus of course, the Shrimp Bucket!

I stayed at Coral Island Hotel for 6 nights and really enjoyed my stay here. The room was very nice, had an ocean view and a walk in shower. Staff was very helpful and I did eat at the restaurant called "Me". Food was very good with local specialties. You can sit on the patio and have an ocean view. There is also free Internet access in the lobby. You can walk to a wonderful coffee shop called Sole Mare and it's another great breakfast place, loved the coffee drinks! The hotel is in a great location and you can walk to the shops. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely go back!

Traveler's tip:

You can take the pulmonias (look like golf carts) but you do have to haggle with the drivers for a good price. We took the green bus to get around. It was humid when we went (June) and I wish I had taken more cotton clothing! Best place to eat: Pancho's We also loved Citrus Ocean in the Marina area.
