Very nice hotel and extremely nice staff. Amenities were outstanding and our comfort was a priority. The only issue was with the fight over the beach chairs. Some old-timers felt they could reserve a ton of chairs for themselves, and argued if you wanted one for yourself. (Even though there is a sign saying "No reserving chairs!"). Other than that slight inconvienience, it was a great stay. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good time, a relaxing stay and not spend a ton of money.

This hotel only has two drawbacks. Parking is non exsistent not a problem if you do not rent a car. Our room had ants they were not bad just gave you a feeling that maybe they need a little more attention to details. Overall experience was great and staff really tried to make your stay enjoyable.

Our check-in experience was not as expected, due to only one person available at the counter, who was handling a challenging guest. After 15min of waiting we finally got our bracelet (all inclusive) and asked us to go to the concierge area, where they tried to sell us "membership", which is a disguise for time share. The attendant also offered us tours which were overpriced (to get deals go to El Malecon, you'll find tours everywhere). The food was always the same, but was OK (not great, not bad), their theme nights are a joke. Great pool though, you can relax and enjoy the day, it was clean. Their concierge service didn't have much knowledge of what's outside their agenda (try to sell you their tours/membership). We had a great dinner outside of El Malecon area, we highly recommend Gaby restaurant. We had a great time in a tour we choose named Quixmixto. For a true Puerto Vallarta experience, you must ride their local buses, but say your prayers ;)

You must try Gaby Restaurant, located at Mina No. 252, Centro. You'll be greeted with a warm welcome and you'll not only enjoy the great food, but the service. By the way, the scenery is romantic. Don't forget your camera. There's a cat that will greet you too ;)

My girlfriend and I went during September doing the non-tourist season and the swine flu epidemic. Needless to say we were one of the few non-Mexicans at the resort as there were not alot of vacationers at this time. The food was traditional mexican fare since the majority of people were mexican. I liked it but my girlfriend didn't. However they had a great snack bar by the pool with traditional American food; hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, nachos etc. The pool was awesome, the alcohol was middle shelf (not bad) the beach access was great, and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The best food I had my whole time in Puerto was a little taco stand across the street from the hotel ran by 4 women (it was amazing and dirt cheap).

Traveler's tip:

Puerto Vallarta was dirt cheap. You could eat at a really nice restaurant get appetizers, entrees and multiple rounds of drinks and it will be half the price of a comparable restaurant in American. In addition to trraveling during the non-tourist season Mexican vendors are willing to bargain to extremely low prices because they are desperate for the cash at this time. If you plan on shopping in the flea market bring American dollars and your bargaining power will increase.

My daughter and I stayed for five days and had a wonderful time. The staff were great and very attentive. While the food was good, a buffet does get a bit boring after awhile, but the drinks were plentiful and not watered down. We were there at a time when many local families were vacationing, but we admired how well behaved the children were and we were able to really relax. Our air conditioning worked great and we were really grateful for that as it was pretty humid. The beach area was small, but very safe. One night staff told everyone who were still out by the pool and bar that a large sea turtle was coming on shore so we all were able to watch it, while security people kept everyone from bothering it - very exciting. We had a fabulous mother-daughter vacation and hope to do it on an annual basis from now on.

Traveler's tip:

Try one of the zip line canopy tours - absolutely worthwhile. Also, keep your camera with you at all times - you never know when you will see a large sea turtle on the beach one night or a spectacularly beautiful sunset

We just came back 2 weeks ago and we had a blast. The first day we relaxed by the pool and beach. They had a guy who would come to where we were sitting and bring us driks. That was nice. The breakfast and dinners were nice as well. We never had lunch at the location b/c we were always doing a tour. The scenery was AWESOME. Loved it. We went at a perfect time b/c it wasn't that tourist since everyone was back to school. I recommend everyone experience Puerto Vallarta at least once.

The hotel is very clean & well organized. The rooms are cleaned twice a day. The staff is very helpful and pool acitivties are lots of fun. The food is ok, you are only able to eat at Santa Maria once. The buffet is pretty much the same with very little variety.

My wife and I had a very nice stay at the Canto Del Sol. We bought the all inclusive package and it was well worth it. The food was good enough at the buffet restaurant that we didn't bother with the reservation restaurant. Also, the items at the snack bar were very good. The pool bar was great, they never let your glass run empty. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing that I had a problem with was after you check in, they send you to a different desk to get you towel cards and the attendant tries to persuade you to sign up for the hotels time share program. You don't get the cards until she was finished. Other than that, we had a great time.

Traveler's tip:

There is a large Walmart type store a few blocks that has a large selection of items, including liquor named Maxi. There are a lot of small shops in the "flea market" area

no disco`s at night to wind the night away. if you like music with your drinking you won`t get it here in august. have to go into town which is not far (15) min max.

be wary of time share from the moment you get off the plane there are legions of people trying to get you. go outside and get a cab no matter how good the deal is. if you do it get cash, at least 200.00 dollars for your time.

Great food and drinks.Nice people. Clean. Nice beach and pool. Pool for the kids also. Awesome night time entertainment. Only have a couple suggestions. Staff speaks very little English and dancing would be nice. Also more daytime activities like bocci, pingpong, bingo, shuffleboard etc. The blackjack was fun and crafts for the kids was cool. Water volleyball and polo good. Specialty restaurants were nice and relaxing.

Traveler's tip:

Take bus to shopping only 12 pesos. Don't stop for timeshare people unless you want to do it. All-inclusive well worth it!

the hotel's staff is very friendly and the service is speedy. the all inclusive is totally worth it. the food is good (by a foodie's standards) and always available. whether it's the restaurant, the snack bar during the hours the restaurant is closed, or room service after hours, it's all included! and the waiters will bring your drinks to the beach!

We had an absolute great time my husband and I! We went in for our honeymoon and did not want to come back at all! Great place with great people to be there with.

Traveler's tip:

Any shopping you do, just be aware of the tour guides that will literally hunt you down to get you to sign up! The best thing is to ignore them & forget about being polite since they will not care.

Ok, I did my research and read up on this place before I booked it. Let me tell you I'm not picky when it comes to travel. If I have a clean COOL room I'm pretty happy. The location was great since you are a short taxi ride from everything. The problem for us was the fact that this place was just too busy. Instead of enjoying a relaxing environment by the pool or the beach I had to plan out how to get a beach chair by 6:00 a.m. There was just too many people at this place! It seemed like tourism was low so they compensated by selling "day" passes to the locals for them to use the facility as well. Just too many people!!! This also brings more issues, the pool wasn't the cleanest it could possibly be either. We just happen to be in the pool when someone discovered an object floating that shouldn't have been there. So, the pool was out of the question for the rest of our stay! Otherwise I guess our stay at the hotel would have been a bit more enjoyable.

Traveler's tip:

Learn to say "NO" if you go downtown. I could not believe how many times and ways we got hit-up for time share presentations. If you go into a shop, a restaurant or simply just look at something from a distance you are targeted.

We were pleasantly surprised with the Canto Del Sol. This was our first time at an "all-inclusive" and we would choose this option and this hotel again. We appreciated that the hotel was not overrun with American tourists. The hotel was primarily occupied by Mexican families and a smattering of European travelers, which made for a more authentic experience. We enjoyed the beach and the pool and walking along the beach into downtown. The food was okay - standard buffet offerings; but, it was convenient to have meals available in our hotel as well as snacks throughout the day. As another reviewer mentioned, the alcohol is low-end, but for free drinks, who can complain? The facilities were well maintained - absolutely clean and the service staff appeared to work hard to maintain this standard. The employees at Canto Del Sol (and most of Puerto Vallarta) were genuinely friendly. We avoided all conversations of time-shares and enjoyed our time immensely.

Traveler's tip:

We spent one day at the south end of the bay (Mismaloya) and a day at the north end of the bay (Punta de Mita) and strongly recommend either as a get-away. We took the city bus (about $1 person). The vegetation and landscape was so different from Puerto Vallarta. In Mismaloya you can rent charter a boat out to Los Arcos (natural rock formations) for about $35-40 and snorkle with fish. We recommend doing this on your own, rather than through a tour package. You'll save more than 50% of the cost!

We went to Canto del Sol for vacation. First, the timeshare was relentless....everywhere. The hotel staff was exceptionally amiable and the hotel was very clean. The drinks were best I've had at an all inclusive. The air conditioner struggled to keep the room cool but we slept fine. The beach was small and the tide was fierce, afraid to go to far.

Traveler's tip:

Ride the city bus EVERYWHERE. You can ride from the airport, downtown, or all up and down the strip for 5-1/2 pesos.
