On the second day (first full day) as we were walking into the fitness room, I told my wife, I'm skeptical; I have nothing to complain about. In a nut shell this is a wonderfull place - basically as advertised. I will list my only issues. But the rooms, facilities and service very very good. My most recent Mexican vacation was at the Fairmont north of Playa Del Carmen. For a lot of reasons we enjoyed this much more. At no time did I feel like I was getting nickled and dimed. The rooms with a full kitchen were fabulous there is a Mega store only 4 blocks away. Improvement suggestions: Javiers while the food was good, it was NOT great, even though they charged great prices. Go to Morgans down the road 10 blocks and enjoy a true amazing dinner.

My wife and I were highly impressed with the extreme high level of service we received from Cabo Azul. I'm typically the kind of man that prefers to do things myself, but the entire staff at Cabo Azul took care of everything and I was able to relax and enjoy my honeymoon with my wife. The resort is very well kept, the staff is very, very friendly and respectful, and the atmosphere is very quaint and relaxing with no noise or crowds. The rooms were beautiful from the furniture to the view of the pool area and ocean from our balcony. The weather everyday was gorgeous and with the living area room and bedroom you can open the sliding glass doors all the way open to the whole length of the wall. My wife and I slept every night with the whole wall completely open to the outside and woke up like that.

My wife and I recently did a short 4 day visit to Cabo (without children) and loved Cabo Azul. We have enjoyed many 5 star resorts, but prefer more high-end boutique hotels. Cabo Azul was the perfect blend of both - good scale with plenty of on-site amenities, but very intimate. Cabo Azul was quiet with soft-ambient music, very clean in the room and throughout the property, beautifully appointed, well designed with a blend of contemporary and mexican architecture. The property has held up very well (the whites have not yellowed and the darks have not faded - nothing tattered or worn). The pool is beautiful and the 3-tiered design gives each of the pools it's own intimate, unique feel. The swim steps, in-pool beds and poolside "pods" are wonderful. The lounge chairs are solid and the soft cushion covers are changed nightly. The food at the pool restaurant was good, but pricey. Javier's was also good and very similar in quality and price to the Javier's in Laguna Beach (same owner). The poolside drinks were approx. $12/Marg. and $5/beer, so they add up. The on-site market is great (clean, convenient and relatively inexpensive - 50% higher than 7-11 prices). The spa was beautiful - we negotiated a couples massage for $160 + tip (you can get $20-25 massages on the beach next door but hot, open & dirty). Overall, we were very impressed with Cabo Azul, and my wife is not easily impressed.

Traveler's tip:

For surfers - Cabo Azul is about 2 miles east of Zippers. You can do the long walk up the beach, but it is quite a haul. You can't really surf out front - or swim or body surf for that matter. Airport Shuttle - if you have 4 or less in your group, I would have Cabo Azul arrange the transportation. If you have more, you may be able to save some with a cab ride, but the airport cab area is a mess with guys lying to you and trying to get you to do timeshare presentations.

My daughters and I recently spent time at this lovely resort. We were celebrating my 50th b-day! The resort was beautiful, the service was excellent. There wer minor glitches with incorrect charges that were cleared up to my satisfaction. They more than made up for that in their willingness to go above and beyond to help us when we were in an accident while vacationing in Cabo. It was not our fault and the concierge, Adriano, did everything he could to help us navigate the system there. It was initially concerning being in a foreign place until Adriano stepped in to help! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality...We will be back!!

Traveler's tip:

The dining options are fabulous. We enjoyed all but one meal on the resort.

We have stayed at this hotel once before and it was just as wonderful the 2nd time around! If you eat there or plan on hanging by the pool make sure Rodrigo is working! Everyone there is great but he goes the extra step to see that you are satisfied! A great place to go and relax

Traveler's tip:

Do check out the Tropicana Inn/ Resturant! The food there is to die for and the Sangria is like no other!!

we had a wonderfult time at Cabo Azul. Resort very clean and extremly beautiful and moderd. Housekipping services were excellent. Twice a day service to make sure we had everything. The full kitchen was a great saving, so we did not have to eat out three times a day. Self-Loundry on each villa was also convenient. Big savings on that as well. It's really helpful for families with children.

very family oriented the pool area and the entire resort

Beautiful hotel and great food! I can't wait to go back! You can only swim in the ocean at your own risk because the currents are strong. Although, the pool looks out at the ocean and is extremely comfortable.

Traveler's tip:

I would make sure to have the taxi arranged before you get to the airport. Otherwise, the locals will try to sway you into a timeshare presentation. They will offer you all sorts of free activities and free rides. Don't be afraid to ask for money instead. I recommend renting a car, it's inexpensive and there is only one road so it's hard to get lost.

We had such a wonderful trip! Cabo Azul is amazing! My boyfriend is a huge hotel snob and he was beyond happy with the very large suites. They are elegantly appointed with carved wood beds and mirrors. We didn't use the kitchen but it was state of the art with all dinnerware and utinsels. There was a little store on the property for water and snacks and wine and a nice work out facitlity. The pool and beach are fabulous! We loved the short trip into San Jose del Cabo for dinner and shopping. Much more charming than Cabo. We absolutely loved everything! If you are planning a wedding the chapel is amazing!!

Traveler's tip:

The restaurants in San Jose are charming and wonderful and much less expensive than dining at the hotel. For a fancy dinner we went to Los Ventanna one night and had an excellent and romantic dinner but it was very expensive.

Went to Cabo Azul for a quick long weekend getaway. We had schedule transportation through the hotel prior to arrival, everything was handled very well. Upon arrival, I was a bit underwhelmed by the reception & concierge area. It looks like they just took down the walls of 2 suites and turned it into a reception. You could see the kitchen and closets behind the reception counter! However once we got inside the hotel, it was absolutely beautiful. We got an ocean view 1 bedroom villa and it was much larger than I expected. There is a huge patio too with a table where you could have a meal. Love the bedroom and bathroom installations. The pool was also great -- a 3-tier infinity pool with different temperatures and 2 jacuzzis. A restaurant next to the pool so you can either lounge by the pool and eat or have a poolside seat at the restaurant. One thing lacking is the slow service at the poolside chairs and the casual poolside restaurant. It was obvious that there were not enough staff to accommodate the amount of guests. We had to wait over 15min at the pool before getting served. They also ran out of pool towels and we had to wait for that too. Check-out was ridiculously early at 10am! At least give the courtesy of 11am -- or again, just hire more staff? We were able to extend our check-out till 11am, but they wouldn't even hear of it when we asked for 11:30am. Overall, I'd recommend it for families or couples, but it is not a "spring-breakers" type of place.

Traveler's tip:

There is no swimming in the ocean because of the rip tides, so you have to either schedule some kind of snorkeling trip or cab to a nearby swimmable beach.

I felt that this resort met my needs which was a place for total relaxation. The service was amazing and met every time. The food was delicious, the people were friendly and the spa was the best. Even though there were children at this resort (which is not the best place for them because its mostly catered to adults - which is fine by me), but there were not many so it is still somewhat quite and relaxing at the same time.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful in the day and amazing at night....especially the pool....the pictures do not do it justice. We immediately fell in love with our room even though we didn't spend much time there. The kitchen was very well equipped. The surrounding area of the hotel is very peaceful and it's a welcome calm after spending a day in nearby Cabo San Lucas...where most go to party. We recommend the dinner cruise on board the Sun Rider....the staff was very entertaining....we had a drunken blast!!! The hotel staff will offer you a tour if you are interested in buying a time share but they are not pushy at all. They were very helpful in providing different options of travel. We ate at Flor De Noche only once but not from the pool side.....the drinks were good...not watered down and the food was good. Take the bus into town if you plan to go to Cabo San Lucas where most do their excursions. I think it was $4 per person....I'm still a little confused about the peso conversion. We felt it ws best to carry both US and Pesos and use the currency in which the items are priced if they do not accept credit/debit cards. Use your credit/debit card in places where items are priced in pesos....you will receive a better exchange rate from the US.

Traveler's tip:

Go the Mega and cook dinner in your villa a few nights...its about a 15 minute walk or a $5 taxi ride.

We found the villas very comfortable. Because the resort was not full, we were upgraded to a 2BR, 2bath. Alcohol is way overpriced so heed everyone's recommendation to shop at Mega. Once this place fills up, I think the partying kind will intrude on those wanting peace. The sliding doors open onto expansive decks and when you're enjoying yours, so are they. Incredibly friendly staff, outside of the sales team. Timeshare freebies worth it but hold firm to the 90 minute guarantee - that's just the tour. The sales pitch after sucked up another hour because we were too kind to leave. They also become much less friendly when you say 'no'. Coming soon is a nightclub, supposedly not a college dance club but adult lounge. Overall-beautiful resort that we enjoyed.

Traveler's tip:

San Jose has an art walk Thurs evenings. The streets along the town square are charming and worth strolling. $5 cab ride to/from resort.

About us: newly engaged 32 year-olds from San Francisco. Below is what we thought of the hotel. The rooms are huge and come with a full size kitchen. The bed was really comfortable. There are three pools on seperate tiers and each one is a different temperature. The lounge chairs are very plush. It isn't recommended to swim in the ocean because of rip currents but we found it to be calm and had no problem swimming right out front. There are two restaurants, Javier's is really nice, fancy and it has a very romantic deck which is basically on the beach. The food is better than average but not great. You do have to remind yourself that it's Mexico. The other restaurant by the pool is great for breakfast and lunch. The food prices are reasonable however the resort must make 90% of its profit on the alcohol mark-up. Almost every drink was over $10. The hotel is not quite finished, but all construction is out by the main road. My only advice would be to leave the kids at home. The resort doesn't recommend them and the "scene" is "LA mellow". The location is 15 minutes from the airport. It's about 25-30 minutes drive from Cabo San Lucas. The hotel does offer a shuttle down there but you'll need to take a taxi back ($25). Overall we loved it and thought it was perfect for a 5 day retreat from the rainy Bay Area. Can't wait to go back!

Traveler's tip:

Stock your kitchen at the Mega grocery store down the road. You can bring beer/liquor to the pool in plastic cups (use the resorts cups though).

The hotel is amazing. The Lobby was not finished but everything else is done just right. The only suggestion I have to you is to arrange for the Hotel to pick you up from the airport. Because they try to scam you into doing a 90 minute presentation. IF you don't crack under pressure, and have sometime on your vacation. Then do the presentation and get some freebees. Overall the Pool is spectacular, service is very good. It is a very relaxing hotel, so for any nightlife you would have to take a $40 cab ride to Cabo San Lucas. I also suggest to do the afternoon ATVs on your last day because then you will be sore for a couple of days after that.

Traveler's tip:

You will have a kitchen stock up at the Mega which is a $5 cab ride.

CON: drinks are super expensive and not that good. The resort told us that right now they are using their time-share (which are ocean facing) units as "hotel" units. when they finish building the hotel units* themselves those will be used as hotel rental, so check before you book if there are finished, they are targeting Feb09 to be finished with hotel. Then they told us that booking online for non-time-share owners will be hotel only not the ocean-facing units. so check before you book. They were not pushy on time-share sales, when you check in you have a choice if you want to be participate in the sales pitch - if you do, you get 2 free activities and "$50US coupon" to use at resort, but their time share is horrible - even if you beat them down it is couple grand/year for 10years, and $1000/year in maintenance fees this buys you perpetuity - 1 week every 2 years for life, your kids life, their kids life, etc. you can put the time share in a will ---- needless to say I didnt buy the timeshare.

Traveler's tip:

go to local places, **Hangsman bar, -- good cheap food, take a taxi(~$10) there and a bus(6pesos - $0.60 per person) (old schoolbus called URBANO) back to hotel(take it on same side of street as the bar). **MEGAA shopping mall with grocery store, snacks in food stalls and cheap avocados to make your own guacamole

Excellent brand new hotel, with nice design and decoration, ultimate technology in everything. A great view of the Pacific Ocean. They should improve their menu and food because although you have a very well equiped kitchen if you are on vacation, sometimes you feel like eating something you do not have to cook yourself.

We had such a wonderful time! We cannot say how pleased we were with the outstanding service and the luxury and beauty of our spotless penthouse suite. The grounds are impecibly clean and well cared for and the design is breathtaking. Service was outstanding and the spa was a must for all who want pampering at its best. Cabo Azul is a must see luxury resort and destination vacation place. We would highly recommend it to all who want a high end experience in an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. The service by all who worked there was simply the best. Everywhere we went we were surrounded by the breathtaking beauty and charm of this outstanding resort right on the ocean. We loved every minute of our holiday and look forward to a return trip. Our three bedroom penthouse grand suite was worth every penny. Room service was outstanding and we loved having dinner catered in our room while we opened our sliding doors and watched the sunset on the shore and listened to the crashing waves. It was devine!!!

Traveler's tip:

The snoreling and para-sailing and kyaking were such fun as was the dinner cruise with entertainment. Family fun for all ages.

We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning next year. This property was faboulous! Every picture on the website is identical to the resort. Our family stayed in the penthouse suite with a beautiful view of the Sea of Cortez and the 3 infiniti pools. The entire staff were very attentive to our needs and the conceirge helped us to plan a wonderful vacation. Ideal for those who want time to relax and meet other great people. A trip to Cabo San Lucas is about 30 minutss away if you chose to have a fun night out on the town. Recommend the Zip Line Tour - it was a blast if you are adventureous. This was a great way to celebrate our daughter getting into medical school!!

Traveler's tip:

Definitely recommend going to the local grocery - MEGA. It is a very inexpensive taxi ride and can save you on meal and drink cost.
