We got there on a friday and the hotel grounds were beautiful. I upgraded our room to a grand concierge package that was supposed to have a fruit basket and wine in our room when we got there. I was supposed to have a king size bed and only had 2 twins. I got no wine, fruit basket and on top of that the air conditioner, fridge, and phone all didnt work. We got that taken care of after 2-3 days after several attempts to clear it up. Some people speak no english and if you dont know spanish it can be hard sometimes to get stuff done. Expedia helped me out and made it right though. The day we got there all we saw were workers changing the hotel signs cause the hotel was sold to new managers. During our stay we seen the staff make many visible changes and it looks like the hotel will get alot better as time goes on. Overall we had a great vacation. The beach was beautiful and ocean world was probably the coolest thing I have ever done. I would go back.

occidental grand is so so. i have stayed at nicer all inclusives. but i was on a budget and this one did the trick. the bartenders were not shy with drinks and there was a lot of food. just not very good food. i would recommend this place to a traveler on a budget. the rooms need updatinng and work. The staff is very helpful and friendly. but I also suggest they rent a car and drive around the coast a bit to explore. the resort alone can get a little stir crazy. the beaches are so so. But definitely go to Sosua and Cabereta.

This hotel has the best beach I've ever visited in DR (native). The hotel rooms are wide and comfortable, the pool is nice (very nice - w/mid bar & cascade).. The only problem is the variety of food to pick from while in the buffet. The kitchen is small, so the cannot accommodate many different types of servings for other countries.

The service is poor, the only people that are hanging out in the lobby are the employees that are trying to sell their time share. The room wasn't clean it has a funky smell and the bathroom has molds growing on the ceiling and I have to call twice to have my faucet handle fixed, and nobody came at all I have to stand outside the room to get somebody that is cleaning the hallway to get it fixed. The food is okay.Make sure you get the ground floor rooms if you don't want to carry up your luggage to the second or the third floors.

Aside from the scary cab ride between the airport and the resort, I had no complaints about the Occidental. All of the buffets were good, especially breakfast. Every restaurant had excellent service, and the Oriental restaurant was the best of them all. The pool could use a little more maintenance in my opinion, but then again having a few hundred people a day drink in a pool is pretty rough to manage. The worst part was easily the front desk, when no lines exist while checking in, or out. Pure chaos, but it worked out in the end. I also would prefer not to feel like someone is always trying to sell me something, especially at the beach. Not much can be done about that. Its a fun place, on a compound of several comparable resorts. Just dont leave the compound!

I am quite disappointed with this hotel. To assign it as a 4 star is misleading - its more like a 2. I guess you get what you paid for. I requested to be given another room as the first one was very dark - with no lights on the door entrance and the closet. You won't be able to see anything. The bathroom sink/vanity paint was chipped all around with lots of tiny ants marching along.The bathroom ceiling light/fixture was stained and had some water in it. This room needed to be taken out of service for maintenance and repair. The second is a little bit better (still not satisfactory but livable). The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The buffet was ok - however the Brazilian Rodiccio dinner was good (must make reservation). All other aspects of all-inclusive is fine. Overall, I will visit the Dom. Rep again but will definitely not return to this hotel.

The hotel was okay but I was not impressed for been a 4 star resort and been kind of expensive. My TV didn't work right and the sink didn't drain properly. I call the front desk about this and they sent someone the next day and basically did nothing to resolve this issues. Also for been a 4 start, international resort the staff didn't know any other languages other than Spanish very well. I'm originatively from DR so it wasn't to bad but I went with my girlfriend who is American and she was not very impressed either.

This hotel offers tons of amenities. We choose to relax and enjoy the pool and beach. However for the people that need to have something to do all day there is plenty. A Daily schedule is posted and you can go from there. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. We had a air conditioning problem and they fixed it immediately. Very impressed.

The Occidental Grand Flamenco was a decent hotel with good food and good service. I wouldn't say it was a 4.5 star as the service could've been better, but it was definitely a 3.5-4 star. The room was spacious and clean and kept up during my whole stay. The food at the international buffet was good and had lots of variety on a daily basis, mixing Dominican food with North American food. The resort itself and location on the beach was beautiful and I would recommend it for sure. Overall, I would say it was good but not great and that's definitely comfortable as long as you know what to expect.

The hotel was clean and the staff was accomodating despite a frequent lack of the English language. The first room we had was extremely noisey and they transferred us to a quiet, nicer room rather promptly. The food was decent and the options plentiful. One dissappointment was that my family was not able to dine at any of the 3 resturants included in the package because we were not informed of the reservation policy.
