Overall facility is in need of remodeling/upkeep. The bathroom in our guest room was in very tuff shape with cracked tile, leaky sink and general need of repair. Staff were friendly and helpful and overall service was pretty good. The location on the beach and near the downtown area was very good, but the surrounding facilities are similar in that they need to be updated. I would not recommend staying at this facility.

Though the hotel is older and bathrooms not updated as I would have expected, the location was excellent, service was exemplary. They made every effort to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Food was good, though only choices were the buffet which offered many options or poolside fast food. We had an all inclusive package and felt the value and enjoyment for the cost was terrific!! We would return!!

The Avalon must have been something when Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis frequented Acapulco! It has unfortunately not been updated since. While clean and reasonably priced, we got an "Executive Room" and had noisy fans, limited A/C, a door with 1" gaps at top and bottom, lights in the bathroom that didn't work, only 2 of 4 elevators working. The hotel was full during our stay and it was straining the staff to keep up. On the plus side, there was a VERY nice beach and our ocean view room on the 9th floor had a great view of Acapulco Bay. The hotel is toward the end of the hotel strip, and a 3 minute cab ride from the Cruise Terminal. If you are looking for an OK, but cheap place to stay for one night before going on a cruise, I guess this would be OK.

We asked for a room to accomidate 3 people and when we got there they gave us a 2 bed room and were charging us extra per night to have a roll-away bed put in. Overall the hotel was ok but I would recommend others to stay somewhere else.

Hotel is clean but it needs a mayor upgrade, I felt that i was transported to the 60's everything is frozen in time, the 60's that is.

Comfortable, friendly staff, on the beach and a great view of the bay.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The only thing that I would mention is that the elevators were not working as well as they could. The room, food, pool and beach areas were exceptional.

We really enjoyed the hotel. We stayed there 10 years ago and the rooms are the same and the wear is starting to show. The rooms are spacious and clean but repairs were made when things should have been replaced (old sink etc). We chose a ocean view room because we know from experience that the street in noisy. Great view from balcony. The hotel staff is courteous and attentive and if you tip even when you wear the all-inclusive wristband, they serve you even better. The meal plan is a good deal and the breakfast is really nice and but you need to enjoy local cuisine. The children ate hamburgers and hot dogs at the snack bars and enjoyed that. The pool is definitely for children with loud music and animation and lots of Mexican friendly children. The beach was safer that other places on the bay. Vendors were kept away with a rope. We would stay there again definitely even though the rooms are not in great shape. The price is good, it is right on the beach and the children had a great time! It is less than 5 minutes from the bus station (Estrella de Oro) coming from Mexico City.

This hotel with all inclusive package was exactly what we needed. A perfect swimming pool apart with playing tools for small childeren until 6years. Nice private beach. Good food. Good service Our room was nice and clean and with perfect view on the beach. Only two negative points: 1) The bathroom is old and really needs to be renovated. 2) The elevators were a bit weird with a lot of noice, sometimes scarying ... you had the feeling that they could fell down any minute. But they seemed to work perfectly A part of these two points, I could recommend this hotel. A low price for a lot of fun

Visit the divers at La Quebrada

The Hotel is actually nice, the rooms are big and the ones with the ocen view do have an excellent view of the Acapulco Bay. Clean and comortable. The sand on this strip of the beach is very fine compared to most of it. I go there every year and have stayed pretty much at most of the hotels in the 'zona dorada'; mostly families stay here because it's very reasonably priced!! I guess you do get what you pay for in terms of service. Checking in took over 45 minutes; the elevators were being remodeled and were a nightmare, we had to take the stairs several times, and where your room is on the 12th floor that is no fun. Parking if you bring a car is only valet and they are a nightmare, it can take anywhere between 30 min to 1 hour to get your car!! Just ridiculous. If you don't mind bad service and want to get more bank for your buck, this might actually not be a bad place to stay.

Reserved a two bed room with an ocean view. I got a single bed room with a mountain view. The toilet overflowed. The Air conditioning did not work. There were only 2 elevators for a 17 floor hotel. The wait was 30 minutes for an elevator. I asked for a wake up call of 7 am. They called at 7:45am. Horrible conditions.

Unfortunately my staying was not as well as it should have been. First of all my room was too small and the elevators seem to be in my own room because of the noise, the same with the emergency ladders. I asked for a change for the next day and after complying I got a better one. The service was perfect, all the people is really nice and worried for my comfortability, but I think that the administration should get involved in giving a complete and perfect service. For my next trip to Acapulco I will choose another hotel.

Nice location, but everything that depends on hotel management (service, maintenance, administration) is absolutelty devastating!

The hotel was away from alot of the crowds near the center of the bay. We liked it because it was a great location. You could be on the beach and still get a great view of Acapulco and of all the surrounding areas. We could walk to some good places to eat for a variety of food. The hotel restaurant had good food, but it was expensive.

There is a very close by McDonalds and a VIPS (Mexican Denny's) for people who need food that is more American. Also, a Gigante grocery store which you can taxi to for $3,$4 and buy floatation devices etc. for the water or pool. We bought a foam cooler and ice so we could keep cold drinks in our room because there is no frig in the room.(Highly Recommend You Do That)

The hotel staff is service minded. Rooms are very limited with a bad aircondition. Hotel is noisy. Common areas is not very good. No valet parking and you have to drive yourself to a nearby garage.

Take a small fan as the A/C could use some help. Do not stay on the mountain side, its like your sleeping next to the street with all the noise.

Traveler's tip:

The hotel was bad, the bar was small and limited even with an ALL inclusive. The meals where very poor in quality and very hard to eat. We had to pay end eat at a resturaunt down the street several times.

This was my sixth stay at the Avalon, and usually we are very happy with our stay. This time the security was not as attentive as in the past. The peddelers were all over the place, and security made a sad attempt to keep them away from us. The staff is friendly and they are making great updates to the hotel. The food needs to be the next thing they improve on. If they improve the security we will be back.
